b58 upshift burps!

Hello!

I am new here att bimmerpost.
I did buy a black f31 340i 2018 last week and iam very happy!

One thing i noticed is that the upshift burps is not exsisting on my car, the other cars whith the b58 engine that i have driven has this amazing noise when you do the upshift in the higher rpms

I know that the cars whith mppsk have this

So is there any codning or tunes that make this sound in the upshift!?
This is my dailydriver famliycar so i am not intrested to do some mayor things on my car like a stage2, not right now

plz help

Thank you

"Amazing noise" is subjective. I call it "fake and obnoxious".

You can turn it on/off with a tune. On my BM3 tune, I've turned it off so if it happens, it's legit, not artificially generated.

Does the car have a tune on it?

Burbles are the worst.

no the car is stock now, and its complete silence when upshift compare to other b85 cars that i have driven. its relly smooth between the gears , i dont want that;D
i thought that all 340i have this noise stock?

On upshifts or downshifts? I'm trying to remember if my BMW ever did that burp on an upshift. The fake downshift burbles, yes, and I disabled them in BM3.

I know what you are saying though. Our Audi SQ5 does the burp noise on hard throttle upshifts.

If you use BM3 there is a burble setting called "MPPSK". To me, it is the best setting and not obnoxious at all.

The upshifts burps will be much more noticeable with a downpipe, either high flow or catless. If you say it's a family car I would go for a high flow downpipe and a bm3 Stage 1 tune with the burbles and cold start disabled. Gives the car a nice tone without being obnoxious and the downshifts won't have those crazy burbles and pops.

Ok so I recently drove a co workers convertible 430i year 2018 and whenever I upshifted in sport in both manual or sport it would give that fat meaty upshift bang. It did it stock on my 440i whenever it was stock and still does tuned on both tranny and engine but only 3k+ rpms above and 25%+ throttle

I think op is talking about upshift fart and not downshift burbles.

upshift farts are due to very quick shift under high load, where fuel is sent unburnt thru the exhaust valves, then in the exhaust, where due to heat, generating a kind of fart.
So you should have it, under wot.

Some technical explanations :

cheers !

I love the DSG farts on my wife's GTI.

I get an 'almost DSG' fart on my M240i w/ a 200 CPSI DP and the OE exhaust and soft, short burbles in MHD. I think it sounds great.

From my personal experience a stock (non MPPSK) B58 (340/440) has the upshift burps/farts. From memory you get them with +/- 60-80% throttle between +/- 3500 to 5500 rpm, but don't know exactly.
I don't think that behaviour changes with an OTS tune, maybe xHP has some influence?

N20 (328i) has the upshift farts too, after I went with MPE, you could hear it, then after res delete you could hear it even more. Weird thing I noticed though, the upshifts sound like cracks (Like some Audi's) if i do a pull after the car has been sitting more than 15 mins. But after a couple of pulls, it starts to sound more like a burp/deep fart which sucks because the cracks are much louder and pronounced

I see your car is a 2018, does it have the OPF filter fitted as I know this reduced the sound of the B58 and was fitted from June 2018 on EU cars, and they cannot have MPPSK fitted either due to the OPF.
