Winter Tires?
Anybody put winter tires on their M3's in the area already? Am considering this option as I woudl rather drive the car with the proper tires on it. As you all know in freezing temps and snow/ice when it does happen in DC/MD/Va it's usually either on the weekend, at night or you guessed it while you're at work or on your way home during rush hour on the Beltway. So has it snowed? Is it pretty cold out or are we having a temperate/mild winter?
So I was wondering what any of you had done at this time so far. I have 18" OEM's (Sport PS2 mounted) so I am going to mount any snow/winter tires on those to maintain proper fit and am planning a set of 19" OEM's too for summer use. For those of you who know or are familiar am currently deployed overseas to Afghanistan (tis cold here for sure!) so my car is stored until I get home in late Jan 09 (hopefully)! So am also wondering what has the weather been like back home too cause with Spring only what 60 days away when I get back and actually get my vehicle...it may make sense to just get my 19" package and mount them rather than buying a set of winter tires now and defering that till Sept/Oct 09 maybe and saving some $$ and pain of switching up tires when I get back only to change em out a month or two later. So since I am not there I thought I'd ask those of you who are? Thoughts anyone?

its getting extremely cold Dec Rob... every morning I wake up I have froze on the windshields... been averaging 30s in the morning, some flurries have been forecast
I expect a very colder Winter this year that previous... its just a matter of weeksbefore we see snow IMO. But if you are getting back late January you may want to wait then to see if investing in tires would be worth it is my advise. In terms of M3 w/ Winter tires havent done it in the past and will not be doing it on mine. Others may have, but dont know of anyone personally since I out of the regular circuit for awhile. Looking fwd for your safe return and hoping our plans materialise, take care and be safe Al

Cool. Am leaning toward holding on the snow tires until next season since:
1) I won't be back and driving the car until late Jan most likely 2.) I have an X5 for rough weather/snow/sleet and as a backup daily driver if needed 3.) I am almost ready to pull the trigger on either the MORR VS8 19" Group buy OR the VMR710 gunmetal upgrade to me OEM 18"'s! LOL (am trying to be disciplined but it's hard!)

DCT must be off if you ever need to use it at mountain passes..
and far as I know from e90 days BMW OEM chains are not made with staggered setups

Well you better get her parked huh? You know HOW that is in DC/VA/MD don't cha? 2/3rd of the drivers forget how to drive if the road even looks white! The other 1/3rd like us spend out time trying to avoid the others from killing us or our cars! LOL

its really not the tires
... its because the car has a special ///M handling characteristics thats why it performs real well in the rain

I have a set of new blizzaks with my 18's and they seem to work pretty good for what I was driving in today (about 2-3 inches of new snow and roads were not plowed well at all), I did slide around on the completely unplowed stuff but thats normal. They are great in cold weather and rain.
