So was tha May Day walk out a success?

In Boston I barely noticed an impact. Sure there were protests but for the most part, it was business as usual.

How about in your area?

i dunno, i saw the news yesterday, and hear in houston, (it was actually cnn footage, so it must have been big), there seemed to be a LOT of people, congregated somewhere in Houston, looked like downtown. I have yet to check with my brother in law how he was affected. I do'nt know anyone else who owns a business with a predominantly Mexican workforce.

Didn't notice much yesterday ... (DC metro area) it was pretty much business as usual. The biggest centers of protests/demonstrations were over in LA, Chicago, NY and Miami, though.

thats an everyday occurence there. I was there a few months ago, and was surprised they had as many spanish as it seems we have in Houston.

The thing about NYC immigrants that I have noticed though, is that they all seem to act black. The Asian, Indian, Spanish, etc. immigrants become all hip-hop for some reason...

so true.

yeah, so other than a few organized protests, the presence of or shall I say lack thereof of "immigrants" was barely noticeable. The economy didn't stand still. No one was inconvenienced. I saw on tv where some protests were numbering in the thousands but thats far short of the millions claimed by protest organizers.

Yep, not all of them are in tandem. My mexican subordinates were warned that if they walk from their job, to not bother coming back.

Read up on the business section. Tyson, the nation's biggest food producer, closed down almost 10% of its plants. A lot of construction/landscaping groups called the day off due to lack of manpower. Among several other things. 8/14 Perdue Farms chicken plants closed down. 29 branches of Chipotle closed down.

If you live in LA you'd also notice a striking change - most places were shut down and truck traffic was gone by 90%.

I know a lot of ppl in LA and while they said that traffic had gone down, really hardly any businesses were affected. And as for Tysons foods....

"Tyson Foods (TSN) said Friday some of its meat processing plants will be closed Monday due to a combination of factors including planned immigration rallies, which will affect some of the company's employees as well as poor current market conditions."

I did notice here in SD that traffic diminished almost 90% during peak hours. I drove home in a breeze!

san jose had 100k protesters. luckily i live north of san jose, so didn't run into any of that. my friend's car got stuck in the march as she was going home from work. one of the protesters threw a mexican flag on her windshield. then another one came and asked "why aren't you showing your pride?" her response, "i'm american". the protesters then started rocking her car back and fourth. some pretty f-ed up shit.

los angeles and chicago had 400k protesters each. crazy.

Not sure what's the deal with waving Mexican flags - the whole point of becoming a U.S. citizen is to nationalize yourself with the U.S. and only the U.S. unless you're one of those freak double citizens.

If they love Mexico that much, go back. It's not hard to jump the border from the U.S. into Mexico.
