I suspect it will be another hour or so of wasted life but I will give it a go tomorrow.
Is it my imagination or has Clarksons 'lard' transferred over to Hammond, at this rate he will be as wide as he is tall |

Watched it last night. It was indeed very silly, although the 'driving up a mountain' bit gave me a few chuckles.
Also that bit about roundabouts was filmed in Leamington Spa, literally a few hundred metres from my office. Glad I wasn't in that day!

I have just watched it and much like TG I think the concept has now run its course.
The highlight for me was the section on the SM which ironically was the same with the Muira last Sunday on TG....... imo 2 of the most beautiful cars ever made |

Only decent part of the whole thing was the SM and the hot hatch race, made me want another 306 GTi-6 (had one when they first came out) to go with the 205! Rest of it was a waste of time.

Think the future lies in farming and hopefully Hammond and May have made enough money to carry them through

Agree with much of the above, the old magic of TG with the 'challenges' racing a DB9 against the train etc. seem gone now. Latest GT largely forgettable and not a patch on Clarkston's Farm as alluded to above. Shame.
It's a hard one as I think for genuine car enthusiasts, there are those on youtube now that do it far better. And for general entertainment, it's just all a bit silly with no real substance (unlike the farming which was both funny and serious at the same time).

Let's be honest, TG with the original hosts was generally quite dry near the end of of their tenure with the odd genuinely entertaining episode, so it's not surprising that the GT stuff is generally pretty meh.
I think these guys have better shorter segments on their YT channel DriveTribe, I think the short format suits them better these days.

I was watching TG last night and I do wonder if the reason the car shows have to do so much weird stuff is that no car company in their right mind really wants them to review a fairly normal car.
What was Vauxhalls aspirational saloon / estate called? Clarkson virtually killed it stone cold in his hatchet review. Harsh. (Remembered the Sigma I think it was). This were left with 1) Old cars and retro appeal as they only review loved cars and they're easy to get hold of 2) The odd hyper car that will obviously wow the presenters but only come along every 3-4 episodes 3) Weird stuff that is the mainstay of the programs eg making a hovercraft out of a Robin reliant 4) Forgot these bits thankfully but crap like star in a reasonably priced car. Zzzzzz. I also suppose not many might tune in for actual reviews too but the mix has become a bit too skewed nowadays.

I was disappointed with the new episode, though I did laugh at the 3 cars trying to get to the top of the hill. Although it was a bit similar to the "Peugeot drivers" bit they dud on old top gear many years ago.
We have to remember it was filmed in lockdown though so they are always going to have struggled for ideas for the "specials" that they now exclusively do. I am still a massive fan though. I thought Seamen was excellent, the Mongolia one was one of my favourites, columbia also was very good, and I quite liked the first lockdown episode, all are fairly recent. I love the travelling as much as the entertainment, some of the scenes in Mongolia were stunning. There's not much that I enjoy more when I have a raging hangover than rewatching some of the old TG and TGT specials. |

Not seen the TG Xmas Special yet, but the latest series was actually pretty good - the first episode on Eddie Kidd and Freddie getting his racing licence were both really good watches.
