Daily driver?

So I want to get a new car for the first time since the 80s and am trying to decide if it is a good idea.

I drive 20 to 30 thousand miles per year so I have always purchased used vehicles because by the time I am ready for another car in 3 to 4 years they are over 100k miles and there is not a lot of value left.

I typically get cars in the mid to upper 20s so this would be more than double what I normally spend. I can afford it but feel like it might be a mistake.

I could just drive my 2018 230i a year or two and wait for a CPO model. I have 56k on that car and unlimited mileage CPO til July 2024.

But this car is so fast and the upgraded interior is so nice and I am getting old and it would be really cool to get one more new car before I am done.
Plus, how long will it be before used car prices go down? I have looked for a 440xi coupe with manual and THP and they are like unicorns and when you find them they are asking mid 40s for them.

If there was one anywhere close to me I could buy off the lot I would probably do it on an impulse but I am living an an M240 desert.

Anyway, thanks for listening and any brilliant advice is welcome.

Yah, there are not a lot of these cars on the ground just sitting at dealerships. Your post makes it sound like this may be your last new car purchase possibly? If that's the case why not go for it? I can't imagine you'd be disappointed. If its in the budget why not keep your current 230 for your daily AND get the M240 as your fun car? I guess they are awfully "similar" though.

Don't take this the wrong way but if you are asking people if doing something is a bad idea then it's probably not a good idea. You have a system in place that seems to have worked for you up to this point, not sure if you should be doing anything different. I'd say wait till your CPO expires and by then if you still want one get either a used one like you have been doing or a new one. my .02

If the enjoyment of the new car will outweigh the financial burden then I think you have your answer. Try and drive one, see how it feels and go with that if you are in the position to. Plus with how the used car market is now I'm sure you could always resell it at not much of a loss.
