Engine cutoff below redline

Stock m2c 16k miles. Wanted to rev out engine a bit after endless stop and go traffic
Initially reached redline once in 2nd, but then engine would bog down near 6-6.5k several times afterwards with what felt like fuel cutoff. Could not reach redline again rest of drive. No cel or other warnings.
Never experienced same in S2000 which happily hit redline repeatedly all day long.

Even stock, the M2C can reach 7500 rpm..

Something is not right. It should still be checked with a diag computer for stored codes. Lack of CEL doesn't mean there are no codes.

There's some protection mechanism that limits your redline pulls in lower gears. I'm not sure if it's a DCT thing, or diff thing, but my DCT car will only let me rev out first and second gears a few times in a row before encountering the cutoff you mentioned. In third and above gears I can do constant redline, then coast down, then redline again, then coast down, ect over and over again.

I found this out while breaking in my engine where I'd do gradual pulls to redline, then coast down, and repeat.

I can’t speak to the DCT, but if you can’t rev it out in a manual then something is definitely wrong. If you have the DCT, can you reach redline in “manual” mode?

This is interesting. I will investigate on my manual.

This was in manual mode. It hasn't happened to me on track though.

I've had this exact thing happen to me twice very early on in ownership at around 1500 miles. car refused to go past ~6k rpm in 2nd and felt.like it hit a rev limiter from the sound. oil and the car were fully warmed up. I tried it again after letting off the gas and it did it again, after which I decided not to push my luck and shifted into 3rd.

I've never had it happen since then though

I have manual. Yeah sounds exactly like what happened to me. I was in second gear and could not reach redline again after brief engine braking for traffic after I had run at redline a few times. Hmmm I guess it would help protect the engine or diff? Slightly disappointing

Thanks for reply guys
