I'm considering getting an M240i xDrive as my secondary bad weather/winter car. Any thoughts on how well these will do in snow on the all season tires?

All season tires with x drive is okay for traction but not for stopping.

Dedicated winter tires for a car with 380hp is a must in my opinion. I had a 2018 C63s RWD and I put studded tires on it for winter, that thing performed better than any car with AWD and all seasons.

If you get snow, and can’t choose to leave it in the garage on snow days, you need dedicated winter tires.

Yeah getting winter tires wouldn't be an issue, I'm mainly talking as a winter car period. I have a new M3 Comp on the way that will be my primary DD, this would just be for bad weather and in the winter.

Ground clearance becomes the only issue with sporty AWD cars, as compared the an SUV. So that depends on where one lives.

I owned 2 E46 coupes in Northern NJ. Yes, RWD but with Bilzzacks on one of them & then Dunlop sports winter tires both car were very good in snow. As long as roads been plowed of course, can't use you front spoiler as a plow... ha-ha.

Therefore the X drive s/b awesome w/Winter set-up, NOT all season tires which have minimal bite

I had all seasons on my M235xi and it was fine in the WI snow as a daily driver. I had BM3 stage 2 on it as well, so power-wise it was somewhat apples to apples with the new 240. I'm also plan on using a new 240 in the winter once I get one.

I had a 2016 4 series Gran Coupe in XDrive with all seasons and it was like driving around in the summer. Unbelievable performance in the snow and we are talking Minnesota winters. I have had other dedicated 2 wheel sports cars with winter tires and they did well also but the Gran Coupe was fantastic.

I would not hesitate for a second and my M240i arrived last night but I am not able to pick it up for another week or so due to my schedule which just kills me.

Winters are obviously the most ideal but Fwiw, I had all seasons on my daily F30 335 xDrive, and had zero issues getting up and down Colorado mountain passes in the snow, not to mention the snow in and around Denver. Never once did I think I should have put winter tires on her…I was really amazed how well she handled.

Hi to everyone, Just got my 2022 m240i. I have the All season Run flats. Turanza LS 100a. The temp is now 30's to 40's and the ride is very harsh. Are RFT's worse in cold weather? is it better to increase the PSI or decrease for more comfort? Thanks

Run flats are more harsh than nons. They have to have incredibly stiff walls to allow them to be driven while flat. Increasing the tire pressure will only exacerbate the problem.

I suggest Michelin... almost ever owner who has them loves them and I personally prefer over the BMW OEM Pirelli or whatever other tires BMW uses

Pilot sports for sure... yes, Read reviews at Tire rack for latest reviews. I had Pilot Sport summer tires, I put on dedicated winter tires and alloys each year in northern NJ. I moved to S. Carolina 2 years ago and now have no need for all-seasons or winter tires

Did you carry chains while running all seasons? Were you going over Loveland pass at all?

No chains, and crossed Loveland many times to hit A-basin and Keystone.

Screenshot from a video I took driving up the pass from Keystone a couple years ago. Car handled great, no sliding, and never once felt unsafe. As long as I wasn't trying to plow through 6+ inches of snow, i never thought twice about driving around the mountains.

I ask because my daily drive to work consists of I-70 and the tunnel to Silverthorne. While I've had fwd cars my whole life (minus the trucks or jeeps) and have easily driven in snow over the Rockies in Canada, this bit of drive on the daily seems a little bit more than I want to put my little fiesta st through. I'll probably grab some winter tires though provided I can find some to fit. What all seasons do you run? I found the continental dws06 seemed fine in Denver but I'm expecting a lot more snow in the new home.

OMG! That is a pretty ambitious commute in the winter. I70 is the bane of everyone's existence in Summit county. Absolute nightmare when it snows and all the rental cars with all-seasons spin and trucks don't chain up.

I live in Tahoe which gets pounded by very deep snowfall a few times a year. I have a Chevy Colorado ZR2 with all-terrains fully locked when it's over a foot deep on our street. The M240 would just plow with the low ground clearance.

I need the truck for the deep stuff but you may get away with it if your road is plowed quickly on storm days. I70 itself is always packed down nicely or plowed so deep snow shouldn't be a problem there. If it's just icy or packed down I plan to use the BMW.

For both of us, switching to real snow tires will be the smart move. Our Audi SQ7 has a second set of tires and wheels with snows for the winter. I plan to swap out the all-season RFTs I'm getting with snows after a couple of years so I can do the same thing with the BMW. I'll get the high performance wheels and tires from BMW to run in the summer most likely.

I'll have a better opinion in a few months after living with the car in snow for a while.
