I live in LA (good weather) and I won't be taking the car to the racetrack. Should I get performance tires? Or should I get all-season for the durability and safety in case it rains or I drive somewhere where the weather isn't as good? I live in an apartment, so I don't have the ability to store extra tires.

If you get all-season they limit your top speed. So I would say performance.

If the temperatures are warm year-round, performance (aka summer) tires perform well in water.

They lose their performance in temperatures below 45 degrees and any kind of winter precipitation.

agree on cold temps below ~ 40 degrees the rubber gets real hard & car will slide.. I used to live in NJ until 2 yrs ago and had separate Winter tires mounted on separate wheels to change out by Dec 1 every year with two E46 coupes I owned.

But now live in warmer S. Carolina, so I ordered the non-run flat Performance tires for my M240 order. In LA area you should be ok I assume??

Exactly. In my experience (in the very rainy PNW) summer tires are if anything better in the rain, as long as it isn't too cold out. Then they turn into hockey pucks and you slide everywhere. But I can't imagine that's a concern in LA.

Performance. I'm in SoCal too and have been driving on performance tires for the past 2 years without an issue.

I also lived in Houston where it rains a LOT and temps get down into the lower 40's at night in the winter. Stating this because I've never had a real issue with performance tires.

As long as you're aware of your environment and don't consistently drive like an a$$hole then you'll be good.

I can't think if any good reasons (for me) to willingly get run flat all-seasons and a lower top speed limiter.

Since you have no plans to track the car I highly doubt the reduce top speed will be of any concern if you had A/S. But with that said I also vote for non-RFT performance tires.

I ended doing something in the middle. Performance runflat since everyone roasted me about wanting all season 😂 ( I was just looking for durability and safety because I know I won't be touching the tires until I change them ) I didn't want to do non-rft because these cars don't have spare tires.

Hahahahaha I have the anxiety of having a flat and no service like in the movies 😂😂 also one time I drove on the tire and bent the wheels and that was an expensive fix

Don't blame, those are solid reasons. But I've BMW's both with and without RFT's, and the non-RFTs always rode/drove better. My car is coming with the A/S tires, but I'll be putting on non-RFT Pilot Sport 4S's on the car come spring.

All season tires will be 225 all around. Performance will give you 255 rears. For aesthetic reasons alone get the wider rears.

Plus performance tires are fine in the wet and anything above 40 degrees imo.

Fwiw I live in Nashville with hills and colder weather and more rain. And I've had zero issues with performance tires on my Audi, got them on my G80 M3 order and have them on my m240i order.

Actually don't the 255's only come w/the Cooling & Tire pkg, where regular performance tires are 245 rear?

My understanding is A/S are 225/ all around. Performance is 225 front/255 rear. And cooling pkg are 245 front / 255 rear.

I could be wrong but that's what I thought

The performance non run flat tires definitely come with 255/35 rears & fronts are 225/40. The 255s will look better on this broad shoulder 2 Series

Is there a difference in size between the performance run-flat and performance non run-flat? It says on this doc that the front 245/34R19 but I can't tell if that's for any performance non run-flat or just the high performance tire package?

I believe the 245 fronts are exclusive to the cooling and tire pkg.

The RFT performance and non-RFT performance tires should both be 225/255 in both set ups. It's just personal preference on tire type at that point; the sizes are the same.

I opted for RFTs on the m240 because this car is for my girlfriend and she values mobility in a bind. Eg doesn't want to get a flat somewhere sketchy by herself at night and be stuck.

I got the non-RFTs on my M3 because 1) that's all they offered but also 2) I find them to be quieter, grippier, and longer lasting. Could be in my head though.

You are right! For the cerium grey wheels 225 front and 255 rear is as big as it gets. I got into the bottom of it, I wasn't going to switch to non-rft unless if the tire size was bigger.

Got my pirelli sottozero 3's mounted yesterday. The pzero's are in dry storage now.
