What do you guys think? 330i or 335i
Hello to all. Here is my question, I have a 06 330i on order, on a ship on the way here. Now with the news of the 335i coming sooner than later, I find myself wondering if I should wait? I love the concept of the twin turbo setup!!! I feel like I picked a bad time to jump in the pool. What to you all think!!!!!

If you have the money and don't care about worse fuel economy, then wait. I have a 330i on order and was a little messed up about them coming out with a whole new motor for my car the following year, but as reported the fuel economy is not as good. If the performance and fuel economy both improved, I would say the 335 would be an upgrade, and I would have waited, but with lower fuel economy that is not a step in the right direction for me. I really will never go to the track and I don't race on the road because I am not that selfish.

I see it as a waterfall........ the river of innovation will always keep flowing. Either you jump in and take the plunge or you stand at the side and watch the water go by.

The Audi 2.7T bi-turbo was drinking like an alcoholic. A 300HP 3.5L in a G35 takes 10.7L/100km average. BTW, BMW declares an average of 9.3L/100km for a 330i on their Canadian site, not 8.7. |

If you can wait, then wait. This car will perform better than the 330i, and if it does replace the 330i then the $4-5K will be because of high demand and dealers not budging off MSRP vs the current 330i where you get better bargains.
As for fuel economy as Sanitor pointed out "300HP with a 9.5L/100km average is quite impressive". More so for turbo engines you pay for what you use (albiet lots of self control). This is still a 3.0 L engine With Direct injection and a 10.2:1 CR! I would bet that at cruising you will get at least or better fuel econ that the current 330i. I am sure there will be future threads "I am getting 30+MPG in my 335i". |

Maybe you should just to a 2 year lease on the 330i...you can always convert it to a purchase at any time. If you decide to go 335 then you're off the hook in 2 years. (or sooner if you sell it on Swapalease)

I'd rather drive 15% fewer miles in a 335 turbo.

I wanted to buy a 330i sedan this spring but after buying 130i, I think it will be little too slow for me So I bought a 330Cd a for a while (which is even slower ) and I am waiting for 35i engine. I really dont like turbos, but I hope a 35i will be OK, the 2,7 bT in Audi was quite fine and it was biturbo, this is twin what a like more...
So i will wait and see...

Fuel economy? I'd get a prius or a civic if I was worried about that...
The reality for me is, I'm going to get my 330i and wait for the 335i for the following reasons from most important to least important.... 1) Availability; I want a car now. The 335i isn't going to be out until around September, and even then it's going to be extremely hard to get..so more like January is my guess. So thats anywhere between 4-8 months from now. 2) Price; I can get a 330i right now with a pretty good discount now that it's been out for a year or so. When the 335i first comes out you'll be lucky if you just get MSRP. It's going to take some time for the price to come down, a good year. 3) Aftermarket Mods; What good are Twin Turbo's unless you can mod them? It's going to take a good 6 months at least, to a year, for all of these tuner companies to come out with racing ships, boost controllers, down pipes, etc... 4) Reliability; I think BMW is definitely going to put out a good and reliable 335i..they know that the 3 series is their benchmark and they must put out a good product. But I still have a gut feeling that the first batch of 335i's are going to have some type of Gremlins. I read somewhere that all first year cars, regardless of manufacturer or model have certain problems in their first year that later models do not have. -This also applies to aftermarket mods on the engine; the first people are going to be somewhat pioneers and I commend them for their bravery. But they will definitely be "guinea pigs" any way you look at it. So there you have it, sorry for the long post. |
