iPhone 13 Pro temperature shutdown
My iPhone 13 Pro eventually shuts down with a high temperature warning if it's left on the wireless charger with the maps app running for navigation. Has anyone else seen this? It never happened with my previous iPhone 11 Pro.

I have a 13 Pro and this has not happened to me yet, but I have not used the maps app since I got the new phone. I'll try it out soon and report back.

Happens to me with iPhone 12. Charging tray and CarPlay do not get along. I leave the phone out of the charging tray to use CarPlay or other map apps. Sometimes I need to take the phone out of the case. Even without the apps running, the phone gets very hot in the charging tray. I have to leave it open.

My iPhone XS gets hot in the charging tray period. When using Waze in the charging tray the Battery percentage will not increase although it declines slower.
Wireless charging in my car is not ready for prime time. |

I'm not using the wireless charging system because it makes mi iPhone boil and it has demagnetized my SIM card 2 years ago.
I wonder if this happened to others, or am I the only one ? |

I ended up getting a new phone, because the tray basically damage my battery to the point it would only last 1/4 of the day during use.
now I never use the tray with my new phone. |

I have had the same issue with any car wireless charging. Inductive wireless charging elevates the phone temperature. Depending on the phone the heat that running applications generates it may push it over the thermal limits with wireless charging.

I gave up on the charging tray after seeing that it was consistently failing to charge with the indicator light turning red after a short while. I have an iPhone 12 Pro Max and it now charges just fine with a MagSafe charger in my center console.

Pro.
This is an infuriating experience. During long journeys that include a busy city like Vancouver with plenty of stop and go traffic and complicated street networks, I stay on Waze for a long time, which uses a lot of power. I need to keep the phone charged, or it drains out. Last weekend, while this was happening, the phone shot the temperature warning and promptly shut down. It was no fun seeing the navigation go off with no warning. This is a failure on Apple's part for not testing this phone properly with CarPlay vendors. Also, it would be great to get an early warning indicator of the temperature black screen of death (BSOD anyone), so I'm not caught in a bind while driving. |

I have not used Waze but playing internet radio through wireless CarPlay, my phone has never overheated when charging with the MagSafe adapter in my center console. Next time I do a long drive, I'll try Waze to see if that heats up. |

That is odd. Mine comfortably goes in far enough to see the charge light clearly, which is how I know it frequently shifts from blue to red. I'll try to get a photo tomorrow.

The wireless charging tray in the M5 is an epic fail. It doesn't fit many phones. My Galaxy Note9 can just be wedged in if I take the case off, whereas it fitted into my AMG C63 with ample room to spare.

Moving forward in this discussion.
Personally I suggest not using the charging tray at all and just plug the phone in. And Yes waze does use a lot of energy and that is what has lead me to believe i fried my previous phone doing that. Just as a heads up. |

I've tried using it but I had the same problem....I did a little research on these wireless charging trays in cars and even just standalone ones you can use in your house. Long story short...they can be highly problematic (low charge, high heat) and have oftentimes gotten so hot they can ignite the phone (literally) or cause a lot of overheating issues. So as convenient as it is, I'm trying to avoid it so I don't see my phone - or God forbid my car - go up like a Roman candle lol.
