Red face 2022 M340i vs 430i GC Msport?

Hi everyone,

Have not posted on here in years, been very much enjoying my present ride, a 2015 F36 4 Series Gran Coupe.

Now has come to time to upgrade, and I am torn between going for the powerful M340i or the 430i Gran Coupe Msport? The M440i is out of my budget.

What are your opinions?

Do you have the 6-cyl in your 2015? If you do, you won't be impressed with the performance of the 4-cyl in the 430i.

M340i.

You'll get a kick out of the B58 motor and the mix of sport / luxury in the G20. Opt for the non-RFTs.

Hey there. I faced that issue twice, first it was deciding between a 335i xdrive sedan or a 435 xdrive grand coupe. Then it was between a 340i xdrive or the 440 xdrive grand coupe . Each time the price of the grand coupe was just way out of my budget and went with the sedan every time.
In your case the choice is if you want a fashion cool car or you want a really good performance car. I say go for the M340i. You wont even look at the 430 grand coupe once you get the M340i. Just get it in an outstanding color combination. I am partial to Tanzanite blue with oyster -lol. Good luck with your choice. Keep us posted.
Btw. I see you are in my home country. Opening up a M340i on one of those toll highways would be epic.

Go for 430i. I drove new Gran coupe today. Car drives much better than M340i. Much better steering and curve holding. Less rolling in bends and more stable on braking too. Although it was xdrive model like M340i G26 does not understeer and has no torque steer like 3 series. All in all 4 series is much better drivers car even with smaller engine. The difference is enormous. At least try both cars. I would buy 430i any day instead of M340i.

Aren't you comparing a prior generation 340 with a new generation 440?

Has to be, that or someone is clueless. G22 is less dynamic than G20 and so should be G26.

So yours is a G20 M340i then. I read posts that say G22 4-series coupe does handle that well, but I haven't seen much discussion on G26 4-series GC.

From the side-by-side picture in post#9, it appears G26 GC has a wider stance than G20, correct? And u have test driven a M440i to compare against your m340i?

The 4 series is larger which I consider a negative, not a positive. The smaller the car, the better it will handle (all other things being equal).

Yup. Someone else here has a G20 330i and their wife has the G2x 430i. Both sportline iirc. He said his 330i was more fun to drive than the 430i. Can't believe someone went from an M340i to a 430i and says the 430i is better.

I didn't test M440i, the red one is 420d x-drive. There is a big difference between G22 and G26. Just check tire dimension. G26 front 245/40R19, rear 255/40R19. G22 wears same dimension as G20 225/40R19 front and 255/35R19 rear. I was pleasantly surprised how Gran Coupe handles the curves and how feels somehow lightweight compared to G20.
