Announced today is the ability to Purchase the Remote Start function if your vehicle didn't already come from factory with it optioned.

——ONLY available for SP18 idrive 7 cars (G01 LCI and G30 LCI) and all other idrive 7 cars. ——

Previously BMW had given the impression it would be available for ALL idrive 7 vehicles including preLCI G01 and G30. Looks like that's not going to be the case. There is no way to add OEM remote start any other way. There is no way to upgrade the idrive to SP18.

Thanks.

If your car already has remote start then you have no need to read any of this information. This is for customers who have bought a car and didn't option remote start.

Rookie question, but here goes.

My 2021 X3e has the option to tune on climate control from the BMW app. Are we talking about the same feature or something additional for remote start that's coming post LCI?

And if it's the same, then does the car has SP 15 or 18? Of it is 15, how can it do it and others can't, and if it is 18, then why can't it get OTA updates?

Your vehicle has an alternative power source (high voltage battery) and your AC compressor and auxiliary heating is run off the HV system. Which means you can climatize the vehicle hot or cold with the app. Remote start only means being able to start the engine to climatize the vehicle. I don't think you can get remote start on your vehicle (if it was applicable) because it is a PHEV.

Your car has SP15 because it is not an LCI. SP15 cars can not get Remote Software Upgrades.

Thank you. That makes sense.

It's also perhaps why the one time my battery was drained, I got an error with climate control. Any easy, as long as there some form of climate control, I won't complain about lack of OTA.

I'm not seeing it in the BMW connected store yet. Maybe it takes some additional time to show up.

I didn't add it to my build from factory.

It may take a few days or so. You may even get an email about it possibly or notification in the myBMW app. Was just announced. I'm going to check a few 2022 VINs to see if it's showing up yet too.

It's a known fact that SP15 cars prior LCI wont't get it. This has been discussed on this forum a gazillion times over and over again.

So no need to blame BMW when you choose to get a 2021 instead of waiting for the LCI.

We know, we're just salty BMW chose not to include it for so long while available in basically every other series. Other brands half the price have had it as an option, or even standard, for years.

That's a question you need to ask the aftermarket company. I work at BMW where we only install OEM parts and retrofits.
