Top Tier Fuel
My wife has a new M40i. I told her that she is no longer allowed to use non Top Tier Fuel. As far as I can tell, that means that she won’t be able to use any of the stations she normally used (Royal Farms, Wawa, Sheetz, and etc) to fuel her old Santa Fe.
So, I’m wondering who else makes an effort to use Top Tier Fuel? |

I think you'll find a very long list of top tier fuels. I don't know why hardly any gas stations post top tier labels on their pumps. See the list here:

When I'm at home I use Costco for gas. Not only are they a top tier fuel provider but they are about 50 cents cheaper then anyone else around here.

My wife and daughters all know they're supposed to use top tier gasoline (preferably Shell)...that said, I'm usually the person that fills the cars so filling w/ top tier is never an issue.

On the face of it, it appears that your wife is not as committed to the new M40i as you are.
As previously mentioned, I suspect the only way to ensure that Top Tier gas is being used is to fill the tank yourself. In my case, we use the M40i very little in Summer, so we take the added step of only filling up with ethanol free gasoline during those months to prevent gasoline breakdown common with ethanol laced fuel. |

Sad to see Maverick is still not on there. I used to use Costco, but with teleworking, my reduced driving means a Costco membership would now cost more annually than just refueling at Chevron or Exxon. Costco is only about 10 cents a gallon cheaper where I live. I never used my Costco membership to shop there, I actually hated shopping there, primarily due to the crowds. |

This is funny to me. Mainly because I just mentioned it to my wife when I was filling her car up the other day and she "didn't know". She had only filled up one time since getting the car but had put 87 in it since it is the cheapest.

do you think they truck in all kinds of fuel? NO!
there is one local distribution platform connected thru a pipeline, the gas is the same for all brands. some have a single pipeline, some have more than one. single pipeline platform will get batches of different petroleum products thru it, there could be 2-3% of diesel in your gas, that's normal, the separation isn't perfect, this also apply to multi pipeline platforms, one is usually for jetfuel. When they fill up the truck for a delivery to a gas station, additives are added. it's all about additives, the gas is the same, at least locally. |

I've never heard of any engine issues or read any reports of owners having engine problems or issues based on the name on the sign of a gas station. With "OLD", stale or impure gas then obviously there are issues, but never with fresh fuel.
Back in the day, Standard Oil put "final filters" on their hose lines at each pump and advertised it.....truth be told it was just a positive spin on their issues with crap in their fuel.....LOL......so much for "top tier". |

With a standard performance engine with lower compression, it may not be a huge deal. With a high performance engine with high compression and a turbo, I’d prefer to keep carbon build up to a minimum. I don’t want crap clogging injectors either. If you drive a hybrid, you should be particularly careful. If you keep your tank full of top tier, you’re not likely to have fuel system issues. Much better than using stabilizers. |
