x5 Orange Peel
Just looking to get some others' experiences with BMW paint.
For context, I took delivery of my x5 a little over a month ago, and it's my first BMW, and first luxury vehicle purchase. Has anyone noticed a lot of orange peel on their vehicle? I guess I was expecting the paint to be good, but maybe my expectations were off. Also, I realize this it's a correctable problem, and that BMW is not the only manufacturer with paint problems from the factory. Still, a little frustrating. Is this typical of BMWs? Some quick googling shows that others have also taken delivery of their cars with orange peel, but thought I would ask here in the x5 forums specifically. |

I'm not sure if this counts as "typical" but I see it posted a lot of BMW forums across the regular cars and M cars. But I am unsure if I can say this is typical since forum members are the minority

Yeah exactly. I'm hesitant to base anything off of what I read in forums given it represents such a small percentage of owners.

All BMWs have some level of orange peel, even Individual Paint. It is due to the process BMW uses.

This - you can have it removed by a pro, but it can be a little risky & its very expensive ... probably not worth it except for a collectible or if you've a few 100 million in the bank.

Yeah, don't think it's worth trying to fix it. Want to keep the clear coat I have.

I don't have orange peel...but i do have sporadic spots where it looks like the arctic grey is not 100% consistent. Probably just need some paint correction...but I PPF'd it...so what was barely seeable is now almost not seeable.
