USB Stick Music Files - "No Entries"
Hey all,
I've got a 2021 X3 M40i. I store all of my music on a USB thumb drive (Samsung BAR Plus 256gb to be exact), formatted as FAT32 and all files as MP3. Have it inserted in the USB port, Idrive indexes everything and it all plays as expected. Had no real issues for the first couple thousand miles. Now, about 50% of the time when i start up the vehicle, the USB drive shows up, but it reads "No Entries"...as in, it can't find any files. I can remove the drive, immediately re-insert it and it starts playing immediately - right from the middle of the song i left off at. Sometimes everything works fine when i start up the car, the others i have to pull the drive and reinsert. I've made sure to wait a few seconds when getting in the vehicle to start it up - thinking maybe it was a timing issue but to no avail. Has anyone else experienced this issue? I can't imagine the size of the drive would be an issue and it's formatted FAT32 as recommended. I've reformatted/renamed the drive multiple times and experience the same issue. I'm going to try another drive next but curious if anyone else has experienced this. Thx! |

I’m using a SanDisk 1TB Ultra Dual Drive Luxe USB Type-C drive on the port in the armrest storage compartment. It’s formatted as FAT32 and loaded only with FLAC. I’ve never experienced any issues similar to yours.

Do you keep it plugged in all the time? Is the power off to that plug when the ignition is off? Just wondering if I left it plugged in for several days without using the vehicle would I have battery drainage?

I grabbed a Sandisk 32GB drive and loaded that up with music. I had the same issue occur two or three times with that drive but now it has been working fine the past bunch of times I've started up the car. I'll have to keep testing and will make sure some FLAC files or other formats didn't sneak their way in somehow. So weird...
I leave mine plugged in all the time - using the USB port in the front console. |

The only issue I’ve had was that in my 2018 G01 I had used an mSATA SSD in a USB enclosure, because 1TB flash drives didn’t exist at the time. That drive didn’t work at all in my 2021 G01, so I replaced it with the current Sandisk drive. That drive has worked perfectly so far.

May I have a question? How do you list through music files/folders in iDrive7? Music is stored at a flash drive.
I'd like to have a list like this: I'd like to have as a list of folders. BMW offers at best this: Well, it only offers sweepable line of folders, which is totally illegible (especially when there is no album art in it). Can it be changed to a simple list? Moreover, I noticed that some folders do not show all files in them... Plus, when I select a certain folder, it plays only that, in a loop. One would expect to continue to the next folder. |

I have this same problem with anything new that gets added to the flash drive.
