Unhappy Brake pads on backorder

My dealer told me the OEM M-brake pads are on backorder. Anyone else facing any issues regarding brake pad replacement at the dealer? I have about 3mm left, is it too thin? Should I wait a couple of weeks and ask the dealer for a loaner car? I never ever had this experience worrying about brake pads before.

It's true. I had to replace my M sport brakes on my 540 and they were back ordered. They ended up using a non-oem brand ( Zimmerman I think ) until the OEM come in.

Thank you. It is good to know that the dealer is willing to use non OEM pads. How long was the wait for the OEM pads?

Very little wait.. They got the job done in one day.. and said the pads are almost OEM identical.

Some of the aftermarket pads will have much less brake dust, so that might be a worthwhile thing to consider...

Same issue as you, and noticed we're both on LI... they told me 1-2 months. I'm at 4mm.

How many miles are on your vehicle? I've never had to replace brakes sooner than 60K miles. Even on trucks and other SUVs.

Did they offer to use a OEM like German brand?

At the time they said “we can’t do a brake job”. But apparently I had enough life left as they are still going. Guess I better get on the list for new brakes and rotors.

Since things are still back ordered, maybe they are using aftermarket. I’ll have to reach out to them.

They didnt give me a time frame. I even paid for the upgraded maintenance program that covers brakes and rotors. I am gonna ask them to put on aftermarket pads til they get OEM stock.

My dealer won't use any non-OEM brake pads. I happened to find a set of OEMs online and just paid for them out of pocket and once they get here I'll have the dealer install. I also have the maintenance plan but I figure I'm better off just biting the bullet and paying for the pads and moving on rather than worrying if/when the backordered pads will come in.

AC parts are also a few months on backorder. My guess is BMW prefers to use parts for new cars. Existing customers can wait months for parts seems to be the new customer service from BMW.

My dealership won’t put aftermarket pads and they don’t know when they will be getting the pads. I contacted a few other dealers and they are all out of stock. I wonder if BMW will be extending the upgraded maintenance warranty since they cant seem to honor it. Good luck if you need new brakes!

My dealer actually called back and basically pushed for me to add the after market brakes.. maybe because I had only 3,000 miles on the car and the rotors were warped.

They used Zimmerman IIRC

If they are using aftermarket pads, great. A lot of dealers won't do that. Akebono, Zimmerman, Textar, Pagid, Jurid, etc. These are all fine pads for these cars. They may even dust less too.

I'm assuming you all are paying out of pocket for this service. In that case, try an independent BMW service shop. Brake pads are fairly easy. I do most of the work on my cars myself (once they get out of warranty).
