Style 230 Rims w/ RFT: Ride Quality

i got a question for you guys. My original plan for my 335i is to order the 19" style 230 ride, since its look flow pretty well with alpine white and the new shadowline trim. but i have some doubt about the ride quality now. my salesman recommend me today to go with the 18" wheels instead since he said he ordered 19" wheels on his car before, but the run flat (RFT) tires are so harsh on those wheels he ended up switching to the 18".

can you guys who has 19" with OEM sized RFT give me some opinions on the ride quality? i ran a few search, and there arent many information on this issue. I live in chicago btw, so there are plenty of potholes.

i live in DC..

I have the 230's..they are fine, just be smart hitting potholes thats all.

It was worth it for the loooks.

The ride will be unbearable and you will constantly be replacing rims and tires. Get tire and wheel insurance or better yet have a "tender truck" with a stock of extra wheels follow you everywhere you go. The handling will also suck paticularly on rough pavement since the RFTs will bounce all over the place.

I had the stock 189 18" on my E90 and now have the 19" 230s on my E92. I find no difference in ride quality at all.

I am going through the same dilemma right now. I ordered my space group e92 coupe and is comingt this week, with the style 230 and i had 18s before, so we shall see how the ride quality is.

I live in Chicago too and would not get 19's with rft's. With 18's my ride was harsh but I now have 19's with non-rtf's and it's a softer ride than the 18's were. Whatever you do don't go with rft's if you are going to move to a larger size rim.

I have 230's and had RFT's, I hit huge potholes that were never an issue to the tire or rim ( my active steering sensor broke before the rims).
The ride quality on the other hand is not that good, you could easily feel the road dividers. But once you get non runflats the ride is good.

come on guys, i know there are more of you out there with style 230 RFT. just give us a opinion on how it feels when driving on normal roads and any damage you have sustained from potholes.

The 230s are the best looking OEM wheels for the 3-series. Love the look and the ride but potholes are a whole different experience. The jarring you get (the first time) will have you on high alert!

I had runflats on my 230's a while back and I thought the ride was just fine.

It depends on where you drive. I had RFTs (18") on my 335i with Sport Suspension. I bought the car in Florida and thought it was fine. I then shipped the car to NYC. The RFTs were not suitable to NYC roads IMO.

They really suck balls...THe ride is harsh and going over bumps it feels like the car is going to break....Traction is really bad, I can spin my tires from first to second, plus getting a tire replacement cost u about 350 a tire....Hitting large potholes will cause bubbles in the tire....19 inch are really nice on the car, but when my tire and rim insurance runs out, you bet one by one I will switch to regular tires and keep a small spare in the trunk
