Infineon racetrack in the rain and dry this weekend.
All day on Saturday it rained..I got out for a few orientation laps early saturday..one time I ran in the A (advanced) group...in light rain..but then it poured. Instructed my C and D students in one session. The chief instructor took us off track at 11am...we tried go to back on at 1pm..got like one session..then they called it for the day. We set up a wet skid pad..and wet slalom just to keep the students from going totally nutz. Ended up drinking scotch at the hotel with the other instructors..man, there are some smooth scotches out there..sheesh. Did the banquet dinner and tried again on Sunday. Day started out good..and got better..it was wet when we got there..partly cloudy but with sprinkles...the sprinkling went away..and the sun gradually dried up the track to a dry and wet line. The first instructors out on Sunday morning...were bad boys...one NSX spun in turn two exit..and another one exiting the PITS!!~!!! WTF? Exiting the pits? This is an instructor...LOL. Anyway...my instructor friend in a GT3-RS got scolded for going too fast..he was behind the NSX...and didnt really do ANYTHING wrong being in a conga line...the NSX was the culprit. BTW, I was in front of he NSX..and I know I wasnt going too fast.
Anyway, if you ever get to ride or drive a GT3 RS...do it...the driver was pretty darn fast..and the car had nice grip even with used Pilot Sport Cups on it. It was that lime green color. Sweet car. I would show you a pic of this car..but gotbluemilk.com is down..and I cant find a pic of it...but I did find a pic of a similar car...(see below) I ended up really busy on Sunday.... I was in a car instructing..or driving in the A or B group 14 sessions in a row..boy was I friggin tired after that. I got to DRIVE a total of 7 sessions that day..which totally made up for getting only one in the rain on Saturday. I had one hairy moment on the exit to T6 (carousel) when I hit the exit berm, a wet one apparently, and squirmed back and forth for a few seconds while I gathered up the car again...at about 85-90 mph. Oops. Anyway...I just love California in that we can go to the track all year long... Steve-out. P.S. no track issues during the rain..but on Sunday when it cleared up...a Z4 hit the wall exiting T10...pretty bad..he limped off track..but had to be towed away. My students were a BMW 335i coupe..(stock but with Azenis tires - Michael L)..and a Hyundai Elantra (sweet car) :-)

What do you know about this event?
http://www.sccaudi.com/articles.asp?id=168 On the spectrum of instruction and safety, is it on the BMWCCA side or the "other" side? |

They have in the past tried to get me down there to instruct..but I havent run with the SoCal Audi group yet. You will probably get tons of track time with them...due to low attendance. I would be worried it would cancel because of too low of attendance. It is in the week..not weekend. I will be at Hooked on Driving's event at Laguna on that first Thursday.
It would probably be a fun event. Steve

I didn't see it either, but I heard that he got the point very late and still took the pass.

Was there and loved it. Sunday more than made up for Saturday.
The new TC Kline setup was awesome and felt a ton faster but can't give hard numbers on it as I got no clear laps in the Bs. Got signed off so maybe I'll be driving with S4to335 next year. I better practice my point bys. Track had great grip for a fresh rain. Me and a friend were dicing it out for a whole session, It was soooo much fun. The instructor with the green GT3 RS was with him and accused me of being chipped cause he couldn't close enough for a point by (traffic played a part). No chip so I took it as a compliment. Got a flat, left front tire after 3rd session. Everyone in my group came to my aid to plug the tire to get home and then they found some front wheels for me to put on for the last session and helped me switch. Only lost a lap or 2 of the last session. Go BMWCCA! S4to335. I really wanted to get a ride but you came up right when I was dealing with the flat tire and wheel change. Maybe next time. BTW. Weird but not horrible handling after the flat tire with the stock run flats in front and Direzzas in the back. |

It tok me 15 minutes after each session to dry out the interior. |

Yeah I've done it both ways. One time they made me keep the windows open, which makes sense in case safety workers need to pull you out. The 335i is set up such that window-down in a rainstorm means that you have a constant drip coming from the window frame to your leg. Not fun.
Second time, I was mercifully able to keep the window up. Either way, I'm a big wimp in the rain. |

Doesn't that hose like every single electronic in the interior? That's awful. Can't they just break the damn window with their fist or something?
