Tracking vs Drifting

I've probably tracked about 4 times the year which I owned the car. I know a lot of you guys track, but any of you guys have any experience with the latter. I'm just starting to learn the ins and outs of drifting and finding it a lot more fun than just getting your best time out of your favorite track.

I definitely enjoy drifting but the m2 comp is a really expensive car to habitually take to drift events. Tracking is one of the hardest things you can do to your car from a wear and tear standpoint. But it doesn’t hold a candle to drifting...

I'm probably not going to take it to drifting events (just invest in a cheap drift car instead), but just being able to whip it out of a corner in a closed road or at a track event would be the cherry on top. And plus how the car reacts (the LSD) is a bit hard to toss around at times even with DSC fully off compared to a drift built vehicle

I track but want to try drifting. Need to find some events though. I'm skeptical that it would be more fun than taking it to a track suited for high HP cars though.

More of a personal preference if anything, I'm actually paying to get all the basics of drifting down. And also good thing that I'm not learning all this stuff on my M2c

Drift cars are purpose built. There is/was a thread on the form where what was left wasn't a M2.

You might be better served looking for an advanced car control clinic or two. Back i the day, I attended a Skip Barber ACC, unfortunately they used the "skippy" cars which required double clutching and I wasted more time on shifting than car control until I gave up and left it in second

Look for track days and events that do skid pad training.

Summit Point in eastern WV has a good skid pad so I've done an event there and spent the better part of a day playing with sliding/drifting the M2C. Much fun and great experience to manage the tail out nature of the car. And without killing the tires given the wet pavement.

I'm also hoping the Sandlapper BMWCCA can get back to the skid pad events. I did it with them in an F10 M5.

An M School at the Spartanburg Performance Center also does skid pad sessions but it may not be an M2C.

Bondurant also has specialized skidpad cars where the instructor can raise/lower each axle independently. It's a freaking riot!
