Trouble with iPod in F90 with idrive 7

I have an old iPod nano that was working perfectly in my old F32. This week I got a new M5 comp and I find that very regularly the idrive says that there aren't any media files on it, so I have to unplug the Nano and plug it back in to the USB port in front of the cup holders then the idrive will find the files and play them straight away.

Any clues on how to fix it?

The iPod I've used for years in my 2012 535i would load up rock solid every time. Not so much in my M5. It's almost like they went backwards with some of the electronics. Not sure why, but it seems like a software issue that they apparently haven't yet fixed.
