I started to notice couple of months ago that the overall performance of the tailgate seemed to be a bit sluggish when compared to new. Today the tailgate started to make this hitting sound when going over speed bumps. The tailgate also makes this hitting sound when closing on the left hand side of the tailgate. I also noticed that when fully open the left hand side spindle drive is around 3mm less open than the right hand side spindle drive. Otherwise the tailgate is working perfect so I am assuming that the left hand side spindle drive is dead and its only the right hand side that is doing all the heavy lifting.

If I replace the spindle drive is coding needed?
What else could be wrong that I am not thinking?
