Going beyond the N54 Manifold...
Watch this video from 10:00 to 18:00:
It seems to me that it the next step for N/A N52 power would be a short runner intake like the N54 but with a larger plenum. The N54 Manifold has a tiny plenum and if you watch that video at 16:40 mins he explains why that’s an issue. (Thinking about the S54 and S65 set ups the plenum’s are huge, probably twice as much area as the N54 plenum.) I think this and maybe looking at N55 exhaust camshaft rollers (or full custom exhaust camshafts) will be the next step for N/A “streetable” N52 power.

...and it would make sense, as a turbocharged engine, for the N54 manifold to NOT have an enlarged plenum, as you'd want to maintain boost pressure all the way to the combustion chamber.
Add on to that the individual TB's on the S-engines, and they're well set up for high-rev breathing, the key to creating power numbers in any engine. |

Otherwise, you could just run open trumpets with no throttle at all. Which actually would be pretty easy and cheap - cut the plenum off a single stage manifold, make a "normal" plenum that fits the runners, and figure out how to either disable or hide the throttle body. You don't need a MAF either, so that simplifies things quite a bit. |

Would be worthwhile, especially with BiB's milvs and all to just run a giant airbox with short runners. The ITB comment was mainly in reference to the S54 and S65 that were mentioned.
I could've sworn I had seen pics in the past of (probably) the Bimmerworld E90 IMSA ST cars with gigantic custom intake manifolds, but all of those photos are conveniently no longer on the web... |

For 160 it might be worth a try to adapt this s54 one to a cut up N54 manifold. But wouldn't something like this just serve the same purpose? You'd have the same amount of air available as a plenum or more, just need a filter:

You'd still have to adapt the ports. the inlets of the S54 are round, the outlet are oval (like the N52, but slightly bigger). So either attach that somehow to the N52 runners, or make some sort of adapter. Which is kind of what I'm doing with the S54 throttles.
