Any idea what this cap goes to?

Hi all, I was doing my spring deep-clean on my x30e this weekend, and I found this cap sitting just underneath the bonnet. I havent popped the hood since I got it back from recall service in Jan/Feb timeframe.

My guess is this is nothing, or likely a cap to some new component that was installed, but I figured I'd post and see if anybody has any idea

Looks to me like a dust cap for the valve for filling/checking the air conditioning refrigerant. I'm not sure where that would be located on the X3 hybrid though. AC lines are usually relatively thin metal lines, so you could try looking around to see if there's an uncovered valve on one of those that the cap fits to.

It looks like my AdBlue tank cap, but my G01 is a diesel

Check your A/C lines. That's a cap that goes on the refuelling port.

You'll see a shinny metal block on the firewall (near the center) with some bare metal tubes leading away from it. Follow those tubes and there'll be two ports somewhere along their length.

The only thing I can think of that the cap covers is the thing marked in the red circle (pic is from my G20 330i and it has a grey cover instead). I'm guessing the G01 X3 should have something similar? I haven't checked the engine bay of our new X3 yet.

Alright, mystery solved, it does indeed attach to whatever that metal line is coming out of the engine area
