High Speed Braking, Rear End Unstable
Hello Everyone,
I'm new to the forum and this is my first BMW and so far I am loving the experience. I have noticed something when driving this car, when I drove the demo model I thought it might of been a fluke. When driving on the autobahn I noticed if you're running high speeds and you have to hard brake / emergency brake the tail feels unplanted then it settles down. I am wondering if anyone else has had the problem or know of any solutions to make it more planted. I am sure it's just the front brakes doing their job but I was wondering if upgrading to coilovers or just lowering springs may help with this issue. |

I want to say 180kmh/111mph and up if I remember correctly. I did this in a 330 xdrive and didn’t experience this.

Interesting, I haven't been at high speed since the post. It's pretty planted at normal speeds. It just seems when I am on the unrestricted areas of the autobahn if feels like the CG shifts all the way to the front the rear wheels feel like they are almost off the ground. Do you have the adaptive suspension? I know the US spec didn't come with that option.

Braking hard at 111 mph? How often is this an issue for you?? Seems rather avoidable, given there's approximately one place on the planet you can legally go that fast. lol

Tends to be an issue on the weekends when I go out of town and hit unrestricted parts of the autobahn. I am in Germany, the one place you can legally go that fast.

Lucky you! I am in a constant state police paranoia when I'm in 100+ speeds lol. Technically, you can be arrested and taken to jail for 20 mph over the speed limit.

Yeah I use to live in Central Virginia years back so I understand that. Especially before the laws changed regarding getting pulled over on suspicion of anything illegal on or done to your car. Racing would always end up with cops showing up. When you are going fast and see a police cruiser go past you, yeah that's scary.

I hear ya. Once my friend and I were each driving our cars nice and fast across a long bridge. We weren't racing but following each other. When we got to the other side there was a cop waiting and ready to pull after us. But there was a crossroad and we both turned before we reached the cop. He turned right, I turned left. The cop could only pick one of us to pull over. My friend got a $250 ticket, I got away clean. I chose the right path, he chose the wrong one. lol
