idrive navigation and auto start&stop

I always use android auto, today tried BMW navigation with idrive 7 for the first time. At the stop light, it seems that auto start will kicks in before my foot lift from the brakes. Does idrive navigation try to start the car earlier before the light turns green? I was kind of surprised by this engineering feature, but the behavior is very consistent. Turn off navi from idrive, no more early auto start of engine at red light.

Anyone else experience this?

When the car in front of you starts to move, the car will auto start. Its probably using the radar distance sensor.

I think the camera may even detect if it sees the light turn green. I've been slowly noticing what causes the auto stop/start to restart.

I think there are a few ways the car auto starts.

1. You lift your foot off the brake

2. The car senses the car in front of you starts to move

3. The light changes green

4. The car needs to restart in order to maintain climate or battery power

I know I did not lift my foot, but the list is quite interesting. I did not even know that the car see the light changes :-)

I think you're right on every count, but can't verify with documentation. I think there might be something printed about your point #4 though
