No allocations for months in my area

I live in a large metropolitan area so there are a lot of BMW dealers. I was hoping to order a base m3. I expected to have nothing for March builds, but nobody has anything for several months. The most recent exchange was talking about 6 - 8 months for delivery. Everyone talks about full MSRP or higher. Telling a potential customer full price and 6 - 8 months is like telling the customer F.U.

Plenty of allocations, which dealer are you talking to....assuming you're in the SF Bay Area. March builds are approaching status 150, another for April (that's as far out as they go right now). That said, the base M3 is rarer than the comp. I think we have 2 buildable allocations

I talked to sf, San Rafael, San Mateo, Dublin, Sunnyvale and maybe some others. Most recent was with Sunnyvale who said 6-8 months. To be fair, one dealer took specs and said he would try to find one, maybe next month. Some never called back after chat

I have a March build from SF, but I have been waiting in line since September for a 6MT. Try Santa Rosa and Sacramento and Monterey they may have more room.

Peter Pan BMW tried to sell me one a few weeks ago, not sure if it's still available though

"fully equipped, white with black interior, with MSRP $75,555"

We at Mountain View have at least 1 April build for the base M3. I can't say anything about price. But it is currently available

If you are having trouble with finding a local M3/M4 allocation, you might be able to buy from a BMW Chain like Auto Nation out of state. Then that BMW dealership can ship the car to your local BMW dealership within the same chain.

Cheers

So how often do dealerships get new allocations? I put in my order with the local dealership of which had 0 open allocations at the time. They were hopeful though that they'd be getting some this week but so far haven't gotten confirmation if any new ones came up or not. Do they only get released on a specific day or week of the month? Can they come up whenever?

Also, once you get the allocation how far out is it typically for when production would actually start? I suppose that could all depend upon the specs and current order volume in general?

It's been so long since I've placed a custom order that I don't remember a lot of these details...

Allocations come out every month (mid to late month). Allocations are two months (roughly out). For example, this month's allocation release will be for May production weeks. If you have an individual order, that will push the production further out.

Good to know, thanks. Hopefully that means there really was a chance they were going to get some new allocations earlier this week.

I put in order early March. Allocation came about 10 days later. Mid May build date, with PCD delivery probably mid July.

From what I have been told. Allocations drop 2nd-3rd week of the month. Not sure if same for all dealers or regions

Same experience for me. Put in my order with the dealership on March 13th and got an allocation on March 20th with a build week of May 16th. Was told I should have it about 8-10 weeks after production completes. Really hoping I'll get lucky and production will start sometime in April as I've seen a lot of others post on here that they were getting bumped up on the schedule.

*insert long-winded sigh*

You live and you learn... this is my first time ordering. My build order was placed with the dealer March 19th. [Now] it’s obvious to me that the dealer knew they had no allocations available, and not even for the April/ May window. Boyyy they’re quick to take that money and spin some s***

I’ll be lookin around to see if any other dealers have allocations and can at least match the deal (base lease numbers + 5.6% off msrp)

When the dealerships get new allocations it is basically for a build week two months out. If you are trying to get an allocation that starts production any sooner you'll need to find a dealership that has an open allocation that they've already spec'd and it is still in 111 or 112 status and can be modified to what your build is. There may be some hanging out there for an April or May build date, but you'll have to be calling around to a lot of places as it is likely those allocations are already spoken for.

This is exactly what I did as none of my local dealers had allocations until late May, June. Call around if you are willing to ship my car will come from NJ about 10-12 weeks earlier than any local order.

I know there are lot cars here in Michigan if you look up the dealer websites assuming they haven't sold yet
