For a loaded '21, maybe $30k+...assuming your trade is worth around $25k?

Go do your homework - visit sites like Edmunds, KBB, etc and get an estimate of what your X3 is worth as trade in, private sale. Then figure out your M40i options and price.
Then ask the forum. Until then everyone is going to play 50 questions. Eg. Figure a MY21 low optioned - Alpine white, SensaTec, Premium, 19 wheels is $59K (including D&H) round it up to $60K or $55K with 8% discount You're looking $25 to $28K for your trade - let's say you get $28K (I'm being generous) very for it - you're still $30K+ getting into a M40i plus taxes and other fees.

I have a 2019 Q7 that I am trading in for a 2021 RSQ8. I am taking more than a bath on the Q7, expecting trade-in value around 65% of my purchase price, but that's depreciation for you.
It's fairly straightforward to find the trade-in price for a 2019 car - use kbb.com as a reference point. 30k miles is high for a 2019, just saying. |

As Auricom & others have noted, do some of the homework via KBB etc to get an idea of the trade value. Still believe you're looking at roughly $30k all-in, but no point in guessing further. Failing that, go see your dealer, then you'll know for sure what the final costs will be

A younger me would have said you were stupid if you traded it in and didn't sell private party. An older, wiser me recognizes the hassle and time that's required for maybe a couple more grand. Either way, best of luck. You'll love the M40i.

Something which may also impact you which isn’t being considered is any negative equity on the car. If you’ve financed it and you owe more than it’s worth ie 28k against a settlement figure of 32k, you’ve also got to roll in the difference.

While on cheaper vehicles this might seem like a good idea, more expensive vehicles like the X3 have considerable value which you have already paid taxes on. You should always do the math on what your tax advantage is vs what you could get 3rd party with some time and effort. Normally yes, you do make a bit more selling privately. However that gain is vastly reduced once you factor in the decreased tax you'll have to pay on the new car.

Have you considered getting a used low mileage 2020 M40i? There were no changes from the 2020 to the 2021. You'll save a lot of money and still get a fantastic vehicle with a warranty for 2-3 more years.
