I'm inclined to just cut all ties and let it be known that they take customer cars out for joyrides and then lie about it to your face when you catch them.

I'd trade the dumb nav disc in exchange to not have my car trashed by some morons.

I would raise all hell, a dealer shouldn't go over more than 3-5miles.

actually have quite a surprising update. I'm still holding my reservations but here goes.

Apparently, according to BMW when you flash or reflash the cars electronics the mileage of the car can change by up to 20 miles. Has anyone heard of this? Is this kind of oversight possible? I mean 20 miles!

I apologized profusely to the service manager but he understood where I was coming from. He said he analyzed the video tapes and my car did not leave the building except for an 8 minute test run. He even asked the techs "who drove this car for 30 miles? Because it will be your last day". I'm impressed nonetheless but I still want to know how this is possible.

thats crazy if it can really add 20 miles out of no where. If you were on a lease you'd be screw out of 20. that sucks

yea well the ECU needs to be relearned so it does take some time. but maybe the SA took it for a lunch break, its not uncommon especially since you have a beautiful and rare car.

on a side note, dude go to Paul Miller. I have never had any problems with them and i just made an appt for new brakes. i have been in there 3 times for the problem and this time they are replacing all 4 pads and rotors.

well if you think about it, your are getting free maintanence so you would end up paying money, but i dont think 20 is that bad especially for an ECU reflash.

the exact same thing happened to me, they didn't joy-ride. i am sure on RARE occasions they do joy ride somewhat, but 30miles is excessive. my car jumped by about 30 miles when i had my car reflashed. i raised hell, and they reviewed the dealership video surveillance. car didn't move, it was the reflash. hope you can sleep easy now.

Well that is definitely a relief to hear that I'm not the only one. I'm just surprised no one else ever reported this. So I have to retract my statements about Morristown BMW because the service manager told me over the phone he asked the techs to fess up about the car and if they did drive it they would be fired. I do feel a bit silly at the end of all this but the service manager understood where I came from and even offered as a consolation for all my trouble to let me pick something from their accessories department.

Just don't do it in a garage where the back is glass and the car falls off the stands. Or else it'll be like....
