F30 New Instrument Cluster Coding Required?

Having an issue with a draw on battery. Took to BMW Dealer and a German Auto Mechanic, determined to be the Instrument Cluster causing the problem. I bought a brand new cluster. Would like to install cluster myself, will this need to be programed or can I install and go? I have heard mixed information concerning this.

BMW wants $317 to program...any alternative suggestions if it does need to be programed?

Thanks for the help!

If it’s brand new, just install it inject new CAFD and press the CODE button.

Thank you! What is a CAFD?

If you don't know what CAFD is you'll probably have to let someone else do it. However, most Indys who specialize in German cars have the necessary Ista-P, and they will probably charge half what a dealer will.

Or you can buy a ENET cable and I’ll do the rest on teamviewer.

This sounds like a good idea. I found ENET Cables on Amazon, but my laptop does not have an Ethernet port. Can I use a USB adaptor?

Yup just get a USB to ethernet adapter and you're good to go.

Having the same issue

It appears i'm having the same issue. It looks like a few people already ran into this problem as well.
My Ambient Temp sensor was ripped out (now replaced) and it seems to have caused some malfunction in the cluster that keeps drawing on the battery (had to replace because it killed one already).

Im looking at used clusters on ebay which are about $300.

My mechanic can install the cluster but he has no clue about programing the cluster and if it's necessary. Any feedback or help is appreciated.
