BMW Connected Drive Black Friday

Just logged onto the BMW connected drive and they have 30% off many of the packages on there.

Carplay is down to £185 along with many other things.

Might be of some use to somebody...

Only if you have iDrive 7.0. Anything lower and there is a cost to activate it.

How do you get it for free?

I have the tech pack etc, but no Apple CarPlay. And on the connected Drive store it says: The Apple CarPlay® Preparation enables an iPhone® to be used wirelessly, conveniently and safely via the user interface in the vehicle. £185.50 - the service is available for your BMW?

I don't use it frankly, just use my spotify. That said I didn't do anything to the vehicle's software for ID6...just showed up as a free service many months ago now, can't recall exactly when. Try a search, you'll find dozen or so posts on the subject. Whatever you do, don't pay the 185!! It'll be a PITA to get that cash back once you realize it's free. Perhaps someone here can post how the picked up the app no charge.

Its only free for cars whos production date was from in 2019.

Just got off the phone from BMW complaints and they have no idea why this is the case or how other people got it for free. But it turns out my car that was registered in September 2019 was produced in October 2018 and therefore its not free.

Sounds fishy to me, but what do I know. I had the impression from other posters that it was free for all who had the appropriate tech options in the vehicle. Unless someone here can confirm otherwise, I guess I stand corrected.

Mine is a 2019 that was produced at December of 2018 and I have free CarPlay now after BMW reversed their course on the whole subscription model for CarPlay.

Yep same as mine. They wouldn’t offer a discount on the phone or explain why some got it free and others didn’t.

So decided to get carplay from these:

https://bimmer-remote.com/

Full screen CarPlay and all done within 20 minutes. He posts on this site as well kubax86. Totally recommend and great service. Can restore to OEM and it all takes 2-3 minutes.

My former 2018 X3 M40i (produced in November 2017) I had to option CarPlay for $350 I think? It was a one time charge but on the ConnectedDrive site, it says (and it still says it now) that I am subscribed to Carplay until 24 November 2037 - exactly 20 years after I picked up that car from the dealer.

Then BMW determined the following year, I think, that they would lower the cost of Carplay but then also charge an annual subscription fee. I don't know if that got far since it wouldn't affect me, but then they just got rid of the charges altogether which should have been like from Day 1. Or maybe at that time charge $50 because it's wireless.

I used to use it so much for music but now that the car comes with SiriusXM 360XL and Spotify - I don't use Carplay much anymore.

Exact same dates for mine and it has been free from the inception. I don't use it.

Mine's July 2018 build, but 2019 compliance and I could not get CP free.

Based on my CP use in my X2, I'd really only use it for talking to SIRI, so not a huge loss. But it would be nice if it was free

I found it in the connected drive store. It’s a 7 day offer starting today. If your vehicles details are in the app it should tell you if it’s available for your car.
