If it’s like my wife’s X7–and I assume it would be—you have to enable control of the screens in the back through the iDrive menu, up front. If it’s the same (and I am attempting to do this from memory), you have to go “CAR” -> “Settings” -> “General Settings” -> “Rear Seat Entertainment”, and in there is three options: “Disable” (which turns the screens in the back off), “Allow Limited Control” (which will turn the screens in the back on, but you can do much with them from back there), or allow full control. You’ll want to select the allow full control option, and then you also might need to physically power the screens on, using the button in the bottom right.

Is the screen on? If so, what do you see? What happens when you touch it? You may need to switch from Theater Mode to Individual Mode, in the iDrive settings, as well.

I can confirm that the rear screens require a remote control.

This sucks. Sorry dude. My wife’s ‘19 X7 has touch screens. I would have thought BMW would have used the same equipment throughout the model lineup, on something like this.

Just spoke with my 9 year old daughter, she tells me it's not a touch screen, you have to use the remote.

I have a 2019 and have seen the back seats and screens but have never sat there or used the system.

One big plus of using the remote is there are no ugly finger prints all over the screen.

I have a 2019 M5 with the rear entertainment system. Have a remote but cannot get it to connect? Put new batteries in it and I have read you hold "Menu + the center round/circle button" between 2-5 seconds. Nothing happens... I can't even tell if the remote has power to it... it does have a battery icon but it doesn't light up any advice from those who have this and have struggled but found a solution?
