F31 gone. Is this goodbye?
Hi all
Sold my F31 335d today. Almost 6 years of trouble free motoring, a truly brilliant allrounder - especially with the tech, ACS springs, and Evolve tune. And winter tyres for the runs to the Alps - formidable combination. The only downsides for me were the facia design - perfectly functional but I wasn't in love with the look, and maybe a tad noisier than some others - road / wind - but HK generally sorted that. So, what next? As some of you may have read, we're looking at a house buy - still wrangling over subsidence / insurance issues. If we commit and are successful, then I might be pocketing some of the funds - current "Autotrader musing" then are here: https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-det...cation=at_cars and even something like here! https://www.autotrader.co.uk/van-det...d=Used&page=12 If we stay put then funds would go towards an used X3 M40i as top choice. So no F30 series in the "next" list... will I stay "tuned in" to the forum? Yes - where else would I get advice on house subsidence, wearing wellies on the head, watches, personal health etc etc And a bit of car dreaming - no one else buy an Elise for a while please. Cheers all

Congrats on the sale and good luck with the house purchase (even if it affects car choice).
I love the 159 Estate... from outside. Inside is a bit less stylish around centre console... but I'd imagine I could live with it on a 3.2 Q4.... Pick up? Huge uncomfortable slow - but good if you have a house renovation to do. Either that or a Volvo estate..... |

I test drove a 3.2 159 Lusso when I went for the Alpina D3. Sounded FAB, quite quick - but I was distracted by a flashing oil light the whole time! Sales guy said "can't believe the techs let this out to test drive - hope the engine doesn't seize" !!!
I've always loved these too. Check out the last 2 photos... https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-det...levance&page=1

Hope the house goes well, you spend a lot more time in the house than a car so really worth the change.
When I was looking for a diesel a few years ago I considered the 159. Loved the look of the estate, the interior, wheels on the Ti so went for a test drive. Found the 1.9 & 2.0 litre abismal, apart from being quite cramped in the rear for passengers the performance was awful. Then tried the 2.4 diesel, not much of an improvement, noisy engine as well. Swiftly decided that they were not for me and ended up with a Merc C350d estate, second hand they are worth a look, refined, quick and a little larger. In saying that daughter has a 147 Q2 Alfa 1.9d rattley diesel but does go quite well and has been reliable. |

Well I can tell you the used market seems to be correcting. I've seen some m340i and x3m40i go down a couple of thousand over the weekend.
I'm holding fire probably until the new year now as no point having 2 cars not going anywhere. As for the alfa they still look good if you ask me. I had a 156 v6 and loved it and the 159s improved things, never had any issues with mine. |

That’s interesting - a couple of the X3s I enquired about have “sold” then come back on due to “buyers struggling to get finance”, but then eventually sold. 1 or 2 others have also reappeared.
Think you’re right that Q1 is a better bet maybe - will settle for socks for Xmas again... |
