Exclamation N52, Quick question about ground cable

I posted pictures below, first of all, this is a ground cable right? And if so, this is the right one right? https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw...le-12427549393

As you can see In the pictures, I have a bad oil leak and oil has gotten all over it. I am ordering a new valve cover because I’m pretty sure mine has warped, (180,000 miles) getting all new gaskets, already got a new crankcase breather hose, also getting a new Valvetronic Eccentric Shaft Sensor. All genuine BMW brand from fcpeuro. And also want to get that ground cable if that is what that is. Trying to basically get everything I need for my engine and do it all in a day by myself. Doing all this would probably be like 5k at a dealership

I wouldn't worry about a new ground cable. Just clean up connect points and you will be good... Only time I would change a ground cable is if it is rusted..

I think that there are aftermarket cables, so you dont need to spend 50 bucks on one.

Yeah, the ground cable's fine, but somebody got red paint all over your engine cover.

The one you linked looks like the main ground cable, which goes from driver side engine mount to the side of the chassis. It is much thicker cable, which most likely needs replacement at this age of the car, if not replaced already.

The one you are looking for is called "interference-suppression band".
To make sure you get the correct part go to realoem.com, enter your model and year then engine, engine electrical you will find it there

Yours doesn't look too bad. Oil is fine. If it gets crusty green (oxidized copper), then needs replacement.

Interference Suppression Band

As others have already suggested, the part# you show is for MAIN Engine/Starter Ground Strap: Large strap beneath vehicle in Starter area or Bottom-Left of engine. Although you don't need to replace an "oil-treated" & hence "rust-proofed" small ground strap, a/k/a "Interference-suppression Band", at the coil area at top-right of engine, if you did elect to do that, the part sells for ~ $23 and is BMW Part# 12427578869.

Here are some examples, including the RealOEM page:
https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/par...&q=12427578869
https://www.ecstuning.com/BMW-E91-32...h/12427578869/
https://www.getbmwparts.com/oem-part...42-12427578869
https://www.fcpeuro.com/products?keywords=12427578869

I've always wondered HOW HOT that "Suppression Band" would get if the Main Ground Strap at Starter Failed. ~ Ignition Temp of Oil?? NOT GOOD

Why not just remove it, clean/degrease it, and reinstall? I would take it off the car, spray it with brake cleaner, rinse, and reinstall. Looking at that cable I see no reason to replace it.

those oem ground cable are weak.

I used 8ga copper cable with gold plated connectors, leftovers from my previous car sound system.

Thanks everyone for the reply’s. I saw something online about it being a interference-suppression band but wanted to make sure. Definitely going to check my main ground cable now though that you guys are talking about and make sure it’s fine. Will probably just clean the interference-suppression band now that I know. Well wish me luck with my first ever valve cover replacement!

Lol yeah some of my friends like my engine bay, some don’t, I just love customizing my cars lol. This car is the first I’ve ever painted anything in the engine though. I’ll post a better picture of my engine bay and my car.

Things I’ve done to my car:
AFE power stage 2 intake
New oil filter housing gasket, that shit was leaking all over the serpentine belt. (Made the belt fly off and tore it into pieces, lucky it didn’t destroy my engine)
Rims
Wheel stud conversion (90mm studs)
1 inch wheel spacers in back 1/2 inch up front (bigger wheels soon though so will probably need to get smaller spacers)
New fog lights (headlights soon)
Trunk spoiler

Bc coilovers coming soon. Want to get my engine in good shape before I do anything else though.
