HELP loss of power and no codes
Hi,
I've lost all power and the car won't rev above 1.5/2/3k rpm. Despite switching it on and off lots the car will not rev and when I drive or reverse there is no power. There are no fault codes. This happened before in March, but then never reappeared until today (7 months on) The car will idle fine, but will not rev. Videos to follow Anyone had this issue? Fixes? Car has full bmw service history and TC was done in January. Thanks |

Another video
Does anyone think this could be valvetronic? I've had a lot of clicking that doesn't sound right, almost like the motor is clicking on itself and leaving the eccentric shaft valve either at min or max. In this video you can hear it cranking but it sounds like there is no compression. But switch it off and then crank it etc it will fire, but with no power and max 1500 rpm |

Had the breakdown scan it, but also no codes on IDrive or warning lights during this whole failure.
I'm currently getting ISTA back onto my laptop so will give it a scan. Any thoughts on what it could be. I've had a lot of clicking from the valvetronic recently so betting on that. Also when it cranks it sounds like the valves are fully open which at start they should be only open a little? |

Hoping there's some faults on there. I always thought if the valvetronic failed it would throw a limp home mode and CEL light, but I didn't get anything. |

Keep in mind that BMW does not want you working on your car. They don't want anyone working on it other than BMW dealers. That's why the most the car will say is that something's wrong, but it won't say any more than that, if it says anything at all.

Managed to check codes and I had theses deleted them and one remains after trying to crank. My battery is down at 11.9V so need to recheck these are not battery related.
The one remaining one after deleting is S 0772 - software error Any ideas? I unlocked my car and the valvetronic clicked a lot, not a good click. Then when I locked it clicked away for a few mins. Very suspect right now |

Checked the car this morning... here's a clip of the valvetronic. It sounds very healthy 😂
It made this noise on first unlock, boot opening and just after I closed the boot. Feeling confident that this is my problem. Thoughts? |

Managed to change the valvetronic today, will be starting it tomorrow in the daylight as ran out of it earlier.
Injector seal tools are useless - I bough one and it was awful. Ended up using 8mm fuel pipe and a jubilee clip which worked perfectly. Eccentric shaft has some marks, but overall fine. The old motor has signs of binding on the worm gear. I used lots of PD1 grease which is now called Tribol GR100. Put this on the worm gear and the shaft in plenty quantity. Overall the job was not that hard, just so much to take off and it's back breaking work. Fingers crossed my issue was the motor and not the ECU or something else. |
