Adaptive Suspension - Yay or Nay?

I'm thinking about an M340i (to replace my X3) and the only 2 available local to me do not have the active suspension. My Z4 and X3 both have the active suspension and I have to admit that the dampening on the non-active suspension feels very different and I'm not sure I like it that way. The springs are a bit firm, but dampening just feels so mushy. I'm expecting some rebound in the springs and that just doesn't happen.

I don't think I can go without the adaptive suspension. I've driven both and am just too used to the adaptive now.

The adaptive suspension is nice option to have make the car fun to drive. Why not order with the spec you wanted.

I am coming off an F80 with active suspension and would definitely question why is it “must have” especially on a non-M car?

If I could re do my order i would add it to mine. But the stock suspension adds good feel through the chassis which makes up for the semi numb steering IMO

Must. The risk is small in the US it's only a $700.00 option. No brainer. It works as intended.

I'm looking at remaining 2020 (deals) and selection is rather limited. The two local M340i both don't have adaptive cruise and adaptive suspension. I've been driving an M340i loaner tonight and I like it quite a bit, but missing the adaptive suspension and cruise modes is really a deal breaker. I noticed that driving with the sunroof open is so quiet with the M340I, but with the X3 it's exceptionally noisy (not enjoyable).

I wonder how comfort and sport compare to the non adaptive mode?

It's a must have IMO especially since you're used to having it. Makes a huge difference, more comfortable in comfort mode and stiffens up in sport/sports plus mode. If you don't get the adaptive you may have buyer remorse which is never a good thing

It was a must have for me, so I had to factory order mine (no dealership around had a spec with the adaptive suspension).

I just spent about an hour going through autotrader and various BMW dealership webpages and inventories. Almost all of the ones I looked at did not have adaptive suspension. (9/10). A fair number of them are also being advertised as new, but have anywhere from 5000-8000kms with a paltry $1000 discount.

I'll see what the dealership can find in dealership inventory for me tomorrow.

In 3 years of the F80 ownership, I used different steering setup (preferred the lighter one, eco whatever), and different engine mapping (ran eco sometimes just to break the habit of Sport/Sport+) but have never switched the suspension from the Sport setting
In the G20, I don’t see the reason ever switching to softer setup with the M340i. I’d say that the standard setup is sporty, compliant and comfy. Not harsh at all
But hey, I’ve had HUD for 3 years and barely ever looked at it...

I'm going to skip the M340i this model year and stick with my X3 M40i. The X3 with adaptive suspension is just so much more comfortable, it's not even close.

It didn't help that my dealership didn't take my trade seriously. Oh well.

Not a bad choice at all. You know sometimes I think I should have gone with the X3. It's more luxurious vehicle at the same price point.

Huh? What's more luxurious about the X3?

Just a couple of things:
+Ventilated seats
+acoustic glass for side windows
+Excellent ride comfort

Overall has a better selection of options.

It's an SUV so obviously it's going to ride better. The G20 on adaptive suspension rides great (especially with the non-RFT). Acoustic side glass is available in most markets on the G20 as well (just not North America but I don't believe it is either for the X3). Ventilated seats...meh it's really just an option not so much a luxurious option. In my opinion the G20 feels better put together and more luxurious than the X3 (newer and more modern interior).

Anything else?

Just my 2 cents man. It'll be in the eye of the beholder...
