Just got my MPE installed yesterday at a local shop.

This morning when I cold started it, I noticed there was a rattle on the right side of the tips. The valves are closed on the right side on start up, and the rattling goes away once the car is warmed up.

The shop said it's just the valve but knowing how lots of 340i has a rattling issue, was wondering if this is normal for other g20s with MPE?

Yes, I get the rattle with MPE(exactly as ur video depicts). seems only on cold starts and about 20% of the time I notice it also on my right side. Only audible from standing outside and subtle. Never bothered me enough to warrant any issue as it never increased in frequency nor volume. Figured it was a semi loose clamp and Id mention it when due for service.
I will have a quick look and feel around next time I wash mine.

Mine does not rattle at all. Perhaps a loose clamp like MUFCbmwbear mentioned.

Just to add more data to the pile: zero rattle MPE here.

I don't have the MPE for my M340 but I had to have it replaced 3 separate times on my 335i due to rattle issues. Even then it kept coming back in the colder months and finally gave up.

Would like to think they had this fixed by now and can't say I've seen many other report this but it's almost always a loose or faulty valve. If you un plug it that should also fix it from my experience.

No rattle here either but my valve is unplugged and I have a catted dp so I prob couldn't hear it anyway.

wow that's surprising for a stock exhaust to do that, did you ever get it fixed or found the reason for it?

Doesn't bother me enough to take the car in, and from what I have read online it's unlikely to be fixed

No rattle MPE here as well. I did have an issue with the valve not opening fully in sport plus initially, but that seemed to sort out after a couple of drives

Off topic, but are you guys happy with the MPE? I called my service station 3 weeks ago to get a price on MPE and install and never heard back. I assume some of you purchased the system online and sent it to dealer. Can anyone give me a ballpark $ figure on the install cost? Thanks guys!

I LOVE my MPE! Most dealerships should charge 1 hour labor (the install takes half that time but most have a one hour min).

Thanks! Didn’t know if it was a major operation. Might try and get it done while it’s in for the next service appointment.

They do have to cut your pipes but it's the ones leading to the muffler, as after all this is only a muffler replacement and not a full exhaust system.

Heck yeah, from videos I was having 2nd thoughts too because it doesn't sound much different from stock. Buy oh man is it different when you hear in person, the cold starts are enough to piss my neighbors off. And the burbles are on another level!!
I'll try to get some high quality sound clips when I find the time.

...you had me a piss off neighbors. I have a nemesis who complained about my F80 and now gives me the stink eye on the G20, so the MPE is my next logical step. Meanwhile, there’s a kid a few houses down with a fart can on an eclipse convertible...and I’m the bad guy?!

The colder start is definitely pretty loud, but it also quiets down within 30 seconds to a minute depending on exterior temps.
