Painted Calipers Red?

Hey,

Has anyone here painted their calipers from the standard silver?
I'm interested in painting mine red when it arrives - any thoughts?

When you say "standard silver" I'm assuming you mean the "upgraded big brakes" (option 2NH EU, standard US).

That's a decision you have to make based on what you like. If you want red, pink or rainbow colored calipers then do it.

I personally much prefer the silver. Red calipers are like black wheels to me, played out for a few years.

Also, maybe the dealership will swap some of the red "M perf calipers" with yours before delivery (same calipers).

Another option is to have them wrapped.

Mine is HS and I think red calipers would be epic. Would be expensive to do it right though

I doubt the adhesive could tolerate the temperatures a brake caliper can reach. Not even sure the wrap itself would survive depending on the polymer. Could be wrong, but I haven't seen it done.

It can be done, I have friends that painted their calipers and it holds up pretty well but keep in mind, they don't track, it's merely for show.. Not sure how the aftermarket paints keep up with high heat..

But whatever you do, choose a reputable shop, you don't want to end up like this guy:

How can dealer swap red calipers? is it even available for the M2?

Talk to the dealer and ask them if they can be fit prior to delivery?

I'm sure they would up charge you for the swap (unless you have a very good relationship with them)

Beware of the heat to be processed as a result of intense friction. You don't want brake paint to catch fire.

I got a shop in LA do it for $1K. It takes a day for the paint to dry. They use special paint so the heat is not a problem; track use is totally fine.

You do know that they sell brake caliper paint specifically for this? Do a quick internet search. You can do it yourself for less than $50. I did it to a car I had probably 20 years ago, so it is not anything new.

For anyone looking for a cheaper solution than paining their calipers red - from the makers of aftermarket M badges for standard BMWs - comes these indistinguishable beauties 😉:

I probably need to do mine in blue because somehow my silver caliper is missing some paint.
