Timing chain noise?
Hi all,
I recently purchased my first BMW and have been following some of the timing chain threads and I'm trying to determine the health of my 2013 N20 timing chain. The chain is tight when warm, however, there is some slight side-to-side wiggle of the guide if I try to move it with my fingers. The car has 100,000 KM (60,000 miles). I have included a video of revving and holding the car at ~3,000 RPM when slightly warm. Is anyone that has experienced the associated noise able to hear anything similar in my engine? I do hear a slight whirring/whining, but I'm not sure if it's the timing chain or something else like the turbo. When listening very closely to the outside of the chain area, it does not really appear to be coming from there. I am 3 hours from the nearest BMW dealership and trying to determine if it's worth the drive to have them look at it for the peace of mind. Thoughts? That doesn't sound like timing chain to me. Timing chain is a high pitched whine that varies in pitch with speed. You can find videos of timing chain whine here and on youtube.

I have a '13 N20. Sounds close to the same. From all the research and videos I've watched it appears to be "normal". These damn engines are so noisy.
