2022 BMW 2-Series Coupe: This Is A Pretty Accurate Depiction Of The New G42

Or so Carscoops claim that this

https://www.carscoops.com/2020/08/20...f-the-new-g42/

is a pretty accurate rendering of the new G42 based on all the current information .

"Having being caught with its pants down on a few occasions, the appearance of the new generation BMW 2-Series Coupe is no much of a well-preserved secret.
Previous scoops and leaked photos show an evolution of the design language, with fussier angular headlamps that protrude into the bumper, a normal, for BMW’s latest standards, sized kidney grille, taillamps that remind of the old E9X 3-Series and sharper creases for the shoulder line.

Our friends at Kolesa have put the spotlight on the car by virtually removing the camouflage and dressing all of the above-mentioned design traits, as well as others, such as the beefier side skirts, muscular hood and thin boot lid spoiler. The illustrations also show it with darkened taillights, five double-spoke wheels and red brake calipers."

What do folks think?

Tbh I actually really like the sideskirts and bumper. Not sure about the front end yet.

Whether or not I'll buy one when the time comes remains to be seen, but as it stands I like it.

I can live with the rear and that rear 3/4 view actually has a pretty nice stance, but I just cannot get onboard with the front. But I don't think the F22 is a bad looking car when so many others hate on it, so maybe my eyes are just bad

Need to see a full front, side and rear pic. Looks horrible at these angles.

I'm trying to be optimistic...

My initial reaction is that I'm pleased its not so much of a dramatic change from the F22 as I feared mine would soon be looking so last year as they say.

I lose track of the number of new released I've despised but then they grow on you. As an E36 man at the time I hated the E46. Few years later I bought an E46 which was the best car I ever owned. Hated the E90 and to be fair I've never really changed on that front. Drab car.

Looks nice to me.
Much nicer than the F44 Grand Coupe.
Too bad no convertible and probably
no manual transmission available.

Overall, I like it. If I were trading I'd not be off-put by anything shown on this car.

I'd have to drive it of course - but next time around if I can't jump to a P-car, it'll have to be an full M.

There’s something ugly going on with the front end. Are the headlights too small? It just looks a little pig-faced.

The side is nice and the rear is fine, though there’s a hint of merc CLS droopyness to the butt I don’t love.

Overall, much better than the new 4-series

I don't know. As presented here, I don't love it. But I don't hate it. I certainly prefer it to the new 4 series, but it's not, "Wow, I want this"... at least not yet. I'll withhold judgment until we see the real thing... and maybe some different colors.

It looks like those renders use the current F2X side windows as a base - I don't think it will be accurate to the new design at all. That said, in terms of front and rear bumpers, not especially my favorite (front reminds me of a Kia Stinger). But I don't see much point in speculating. The real proof will be in the pudding of how it drives. If it's lame and not fun, who cares how it looks.

Looks good, not great, need to see more photos and some different colors. Curious about the interior. The driving is more important to me than the looks. Needs to have the manual on all motors not just the M. Look forward to seeing the real thing.

I keep praying to the car gods that this part is some kind of mistake and will not be on the M Sport body kit. Everything else I can get used to.

When they announced the facelift I was worried I'd have a bit of buyers remorse or jealousy. That being said I think this looks OK minus the headlights. To me it's not a BMW without nice kidneys and halo headlights that look mean. The F22 just has that perfect new, but reminiscent look of the older bmws. It's like a newer looking E46. The F22 just looks much more desirable to me. Thank God they at least kept the grills small on the G42

Interesting. However, that main image in the article does include the disclaimer that this is just an artist's interpretation of what the new 2 'might' look like, based on what has and has not been officially seen.

That artist's rendering shows enormous jowls at the corners of the front end. That is an overly used styling trend, even Camry's have it. I do NOT like that styling trend. And I am really bothered that most car companies choose to include a variation of that, and any other, styling trend. Imagine an auto world where designers were allowed to actually create a new and fresh and unique design for their cars. We had that during the 50s and 60s, and many of those designs are still regarded as iconic and loved. I know drag coefficiency will dictate some design aspects. However, I do not believe that necessitates such huge and ugly front end jowls, or most "new" designs having to have that rear end inset reflector with a swoopy crease, that is yet another overly used and all too common monstrosity these days.

In that article, in the comments, someone posted these images. The lower corner jowls seem a bit smaller and less intense, though still too much IMO. The iconic kidney grill appears to be there, but adds a line to the one created by the front edge of the hood.
Visually, the added line is not so elegant. Perhaps there is some functional need in what is behind that area. Still, even that could have been handled with a cleaner style instead of adding another line. These images look very close to the artist's rendering, even the rear end.

My preference is for larger diameter circular exhaust tips. But again, there is a TREND to create exhaust tips that take on more gaudy jewelry addition for the rear bumper, rather than form follows function for the exhaust system. I've never seen exhaust headers or pipes that have such trapezoidal shapes.

Ok, I'll be the first to comment on the door handles. This would be the first BMW in the history of the company to not come with true pull handles. Those look incredibly cheap. Otherwise, not too bad.
