tire question

I am thinking about replacing the run flats that came on the car with a regular tire. i have the 18" wheel style 554 with 225/40 tires. Does anyone know if you can run a 235 tire of the car without any rubbing issues? would like to give the car a bit more tire for more aggressive cornering!

Go to the Tire Rack website. They may offer alternative sizes.

thanks for the suggestion, but I already tried that and couldn't figure out for sure if this would work or not.

How about consulting Google? I am sure that you can find a lot of suggestion from this search engine?

A 235/40 do you mean? Or 235/35? Because if you put the latter on an 18" wheel your speedo will be incorrect. Plus you won't get more aggressive cornering on a 235 tyre as opposed to a 225. Your first priority needs to be what tyre - something like Michelin Pilot Super sport will give you aggressive cornering, in the standard 225 size

yeah 235/40 is what I was thinking. and yeah the type of tire is clearly important too so I would be looking to do more of a high performance summer tire on it. but a 235 over a 225 gives you 10 more mm of tire width on each side which should help in cornering and look cooler as well!

Yes, I understand. If you want cooler looks, a significant visual improvement of stance and width of car would be to add 10mm spacers. I did on my M135i Xdrive F40 which is basically the same car chassis wise as the F44. Unfortunately these cars do look 'skinny' at the wheels, especially the front. A wider tyre will make no difference at all visually - It's a wider wheel offset what you need, hence the spacers. I bought H&R magnesium alloy ultra lightweight ones and am very happy with the way they make the car look more muscular, wider, as I've added 20mm width to the wheel track

yeah that's a good point about spacers. I run a set on my m240i during the winter when I have the stock wheels on. am I getting greedy if I want wider tires and spacers?! lol

235 tyres rubbing issues

BMW supply 235/35ZR19 in Australia, I have had a rubbing issue with these tyres on the M235i x drive (F44), front fender and wheel well liner damaged (fender lip pulled down by the tyre resulting in slight distortion on the bodywork plus fender pushed out a few mm) wheel well liner also cracked. This occured while driving on a sweeping left hand bend with an undulation in the road. The m235i absorbs the undulation much better than my E90 330D indicating that the suspension does a lot of work to isolate the car body. Unfortunately the result was wheel to car body interference. Should not happen when the tyres, rims, suspension etc are stock.
Cheers.
