What have I found in my engine?

So I was changing the oil today and noticed something, see attached, just sat on the steering rack? Does anyone know what this is and where it came from?

Also whilst we’re at it, I completely drained the engine and added a new filter, put in 5 litres of oil and now it’s saying too full! I thought 5l was bang on!

Looks like an egr gasket. Have you had work done in that area?

Yes about 6 months ago it went in for it’s EGR recall. I’m guessing this is left overs. I’m going to contact them to check their work out just in case.

Thanks

I’d say they just left the old gasket in there by mistake then.

Exactly what I was going to suggest.

That's almost certainly what it is.

They dropped it, couldn't find it, and promptly forgot about it
I'm surprised it's stayed in that position for so long, I'd have expected it in the undertray long ago.
