Rod bolts

I know a lot of people blow these things up. But would upgrading the rod bolts make the engine handle more power or is it more rods rod bolts pistons that all have to be upgraded to make more of that 350whp?

I do not think there has been enough data to say yes or no. I think upgrading the rod bolts would be a prudent step.

There is a lot of info in this thread. You'll need arp bots (possibly two sets) to get the bolts in and torqued correctly via ARP's specifications. I want to do the same but it looks as if it would be worth it to just put in an entire bottom end (pistons + rods + bearings + custom oil pan w/ baffles to avoid oil starvation)

I would agree, I am not sure if rod bolts will do the trick. I have been looking at the Bimmerworld's custom oil pan below and need to reach out to them to see if it comes with baffles already in to avoid oil starvation. I guess if it does not I could easily just tig weld some in the aluminum oil pan to do the trick as well.

The rod bolts are for the torque increase at low rpms, the oil pan baffles are for taking long high speed sweeping turns which is where the n20 has issues.

I'm looking at the pan and can't see directly how this would change the oil starvation issue. Perhaps navardi would know more to compare this and his baffle inserts?

Price doesn’t look to bad either for that oil pan wish there was a awd version!

Uro has been remanufacturing BMW plastic parts in cast aluminum for a long time. Common to replace the E36/E34 plastic thermotat housings on the M50 engines w/ aluminum "Uro" brand. Not really a great quality, decent, but not great. I guess it'd allow you to weld in baffles.
