Brake pad life
My brakes have just tripped the wear sensor but it's only done 10k miles - any ideas on what the life of the pad should be ? I know it depends on driving style

There are aftermarket pads that take care of the noise. I have a 2019 M5 Comp and my brakes are quiet. Please do a search under my name for the thread.

https://f90.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1598495 DannyA I would expect at least 50k on the steel rotors/pads with "normal" usage- I wouldn't be shocked if the stock is good for 100k. If you track your car the mileage will vary. However, 10k is not normal. But depending on how aggressive you drive. Take it to BMW or a shop and have pad/rotor measured, you could just have a bad sensor. Just realize that BMW tends to error on the side of safety when measuring thickness. BMW M braking systems are pretty heavy duty... never mind the Ceramics. |

I don't ride the brakes, however there are absolutely situations, for example, in a city, where you need to gradually assert break force. I'm not going to drive around red light to red light stomping on my brakes at the last minute. It's absurd. The brakes on my car are horrendous to the point I'm nearly done with it. I'm not saying they don't work properly. I'm saying they suck. I've brought it up to the dealer and they said it's "normal". Ya, I've owned dozens of cars, not normal.
Here's how bad they are. I spent 25 minutes scrubbing my wheels, particularly on the inside with a wheel cleaning brush, they were clean when I finished. Didn't drive the M5 for 3 days as the weather has been good and I've been driving the 458 and Aventador S mostly. I look at the tires yesterday and thought they were dusty so I reached my hand in and rubbed the inner wheel well with my fingers and they came out caked in dust. They make so much damn brake dust that it gets caked on when the car isn't even used!! It's unacceptable and causes the nastiest loudest squeak I've ever heard in a car. |

If you wear out the brakes too soon BMW will void your warrantee because you are not driving the car correctly. And if you sneak new pads on DIY they will know, they always know.

'18 M5 - standard steel brakes.
I got approximately one year of street driving and two track weekends before they wore out at ~22k miles. Rears wore out before the fronts from all the yaw control. Two weekends of track days at The Glen = 16 total 25 minute sessions. 6 and 2/3 hours on the track. |

I was told MDM will hammer the rear brakes as it constantly custs power and uses ABS to brake indiviudal wheels.

Are we talking G05 here? as this is the G05 section? if so id guess at 30k on the fronts judging by the remaining pad depth

The Q7 was notorious for brake noise - my M Sports are considerably quieter, and probably the least noisy brakes I've driven. Bedding the brakes on any new car is a given, and one of the easiest, cheapest (as in $0) of any maintenance procedures you can perform.
