NA advant. over FI?
What are they? How do you boost an NA engine, besides intake/exhaust? Most Motorsports only allow NA engines. I was playing GTR Evolution and saw all the cars were NA!

ECU tune, more aggressive camshaft profiles, forged high compression pistons, better flowing cylinder head, injectors, better flowing intake manifold, and headers. It's too bad that most of these options are not available.

There are many theings you can do to raise power in a natrually aspriated engine. The thing is that no much is out for the n52. The only downside to natrually aspirated engines is the cost. It costs many more horsepower per dollars to build a natrually aspirated engine than a forced induction motor.

Yeah those do seem like extreme mods. Replacing pistons and camshaft alone would be dramatic changes. I wonder why MSports go with NA vs. Turbo, it seems less difficult to tune a turbo.

Well, boosted motors reach higher temps than n/a motors.
It's a consideration when you're running multiple laps @ 10/10 and a motor rebuild after the fact isn't an option. Intercoolers do get heatsoaked, and their placement, relative to a radiator, can interfere with airflow, which could affect coolant temps. Oil reaches higher temps in a boosted motor. If your a/f is optimized for performance/fuel efficiency, even your exhaust runs hotter. I don't think any of these are big issues for street driven cars, but they sure as 'f' could be if your speed-racer hpd-events last for more than a few laps on an unusually hot day. Swapping camshafts isn't the same level of tweak as swapping slugs. |
