Digital Key in Connected App, which phones are supported?

According to BMW documentation, the digital key feature in the connected app is supported on samsung phones running android 8.0 or newer.

I have a samsung s20 ultra running android 10, but the connected app says my phone is not compatible.

I called BMW genius and they said S20 is fully compatible so they are not sure why the app says it's not compatible and suggested I contact my dealer.

I've reached out to my dealer's genius person several times in the last 3 weeks and he has not responded once.

Is anyone using the digital key in the connected app? If so, what phone are you using and what carrier are you on?
Anyone successfully activate digital key on s20?

Thanks

Just activated mine today. I have a Pixel 2xl as my main driver. It's not compatible. I had an old Galaxy S8 laying around. Went down to my dealer and got my 4 digit pin coded. It took a couple of tries but the S8 finally accepted the digital key installation. Everything works as should now. IDrive is 3/2020.58. S8 is on Android 8.

Thanks, I was more interested if anyone got it to work on the S20 series.

BMW USA site only states S7 or newer with Android 8.0 or newer.

I found some BMW sites in Australia and UK that mentions S7-S10 series supported.

BMW Genius line said S20 is supported and that I need to get my dealer to activate something in the system and give me a code.
I don't even see anywhere in the app to enter a code. When I select digital key it just immediately pops up and says not compatible.

I am on Note 10+ but more importantly on TMo. Are you on VZW by any chance? I thought I read somewhere that VZW blocks this, I am not sure how reliable that info is but I recall reading something about that. Maybe you should look into that.

Well I have the same issue.

I had a S10+ with T-Mobile when I first got my M340i last November and it worked fine after the dealer assisted with adding the code.

However as soon as I upgraded to the S20 Ultra (still with T-mobile) the app says the phone is not compatible. I sent feedback on the app but I know that's pretty much isn't going to go anywhere.

What's even funnier is that the Digital Key section on the Connected Drive app disappeared completely about 2 weeks ago.

Heard back from the genius at the dealer yesterday. They said they will need to submit an activation request to BMW germany. They said they will do that and usually takes 24 to 48 hours for it to get activated in the system.

Will see what happens.

Help me out here. I have a 2020 X7 picked up in February. Can my IPhone be used as a key? If so, how?

No support for Iphone yet. But they are supposed to be releasing new software that supports Iphone but may need a new car. The other threads say only cars produced after 7/1/2020 or 8/1/2020 will have the software/hardware necessary.

Just spoke to BMW Genius and if you have a Samsung Galaxy S20 (+) with Verizon, it will not be compatible as Verizon shuts off digital key access. =/

I have Galaxy S20 on Tmobile. Genius says it's supported.

My local Dealer called me back on Saturday saying they need to submit info to activate the service to a db in Germany. They were supposed to call back on Sunday with an activation code but haven't heard back from them yet.

Yea, the Genius explicitly asked about my carrier and said Verizon is the culprit. Maybe I'll switch providers next go around?

Just spent some time with the genius at my local dealer, they couldn't get it to work on my S20. They activated it in the system, got the pin code, but we can't get to the point where we enter the pin code in the app, it just immediately go to a message about device not compatible.

He is going to research it some more and get back to me.

Hi all, can confirm that the Galaxy S20 works with DK1.0 cars. At least the S20+ 5G does.

If you’re having the incompatible phone error on your Connnected App, uninstall and completely delete it before downloading and installing it back again. It will then, initially, not even show an option for the digital key in the menu but give it a moment as it downloads your connected profile and car details (5 mins). Eventually it’ll pop up and it will let you go through the steps.

It’s just a bit buggy as I suspect the phone got recently updated and anyone who had the connected app already had the error cached away so the app never reattempted to truly validate whether the phone is compatible or not.

Anyway, good luck!! Can confirm it works well

Thanks. What do you mean by completely delete it? Doesn't uninstalling delete it?

https://www.maketecheasier.com/remov...files-android/ under the section "manual clean". You essentially just need to clear the cache of the Connected app before you uninstall it.

Yeah that doesn't do anything for me.

Still can't get it to work on either S20, S20+ or S20U.

I found a document that list the official list of supported phones and the S20 series isn't on it.

Carrier dependency for features isn't really a thing for Australian networks like it is for other countries.
