What's the point of the kick-down button on the gas pedal?
.....there is already a Throttle pedal position sensor.....the DME knows how much you are pressing the gas pedal down. The transmission will downshift already based on throttle position and load, even if you don't hit the kick down button....so why add a separate kick-down button? Why have it? I'm assuming there is a point to it......buy why do you need it if the DME can already monitor pedal position?
Thanks!! Just trying to learn something.....

So the driver has control over going between WOT and WOT after dropping down a gear?
I could be wrong though, I bought a manual transmission 335 because I'm a big boy now. |

kickdown requests the absolute lowest gear possible, a gear thats not always 'needed' to complete the torque request the pedal is asking for
its giving the driver a minor amount more control over just how much of a downshift they want

....but why do that with a separate button? Why not just have the DME do the same kickdown function when it sees 98% throttle pedal input (or whatever that last little bit of pedal travel is)? Is it to give you the actual "feel" of hitting the button? I guess that would kind of make sense? ....what way you know exactly where that point is.....whereas if you just used pedal travel input, you might not have a good feel of where that point is?

yes. to give the driver a little bit more control.
the dme is already able to fulfill the torque request without another downshift, but people like the feeling of it banging straight into the high revs instead of using a higher gear and torque to make it happen dont like it, turn it off. mine is, has been for ages because xhp custom rev limits wont work without it deactivated. only notice anything in drive. sport works as if the button is on still because of different logic built in.
