Looking to move to Austin, TX. What's a good neighborhood to live in?

I'm moving to Austin, TX. Job relocation. Looking to buy a new home in a good neighborhood, good schools, etc. What's a good area to live in for a small family?

Thanks

depending on your desires, size/cost/age of home, culture of your possible neighbors etc...I'll just throw out what I like, they are all central (except Westlake), can't speak to the burbs.

South of 183, North of Oltorf, West of I-35, surrounding Mopac and 360.

Tarrytown, Brykerwoods, Westlake, Northwest Hills, Rosedale, Allendale, Balcones, Bouldin (78704), Downtown, Clarksville, Enfield/Pemberton, Shoal Creek

looking for something in the $600k - 800k neighborhood. ~3,000 sq ft. Newer home would be nice. I hear the Eans school system is the best, yes?

thanks.

Eanes is very highly rated, that's Westlake. But the kids there are also known to be entitled brats with the usual problems associated with wealth and children...drugs, conspicious materialism, etc.

Many choose private schools, St. Stephens, St. Michael's and others.

Westlake is newer money, faux tuscan mcmansions, lots of middle management tech and suits.

AISD is okay and only exceptional with certain schools, look into the blue ribbon program. some are left out because of the rating method, but Cassis (in Tarrytown) is known as the top elementary school, along with Brykerwoods.

We're mostly adults here, I'm talking about high school juniors in Hummers, kids with an enormous sense of entitlement, you know, your neighbors.

So you are talking about my daughter. She doesn't have a Hummer and neither do any of her friends. So basically you are stereotyping people based on where live or go to school. Yes that's very adult.

No intended offense to your family and locale, but I have a feeling you know exactly of the kids I'm speaking of? Westlake can be a great place to live an raise kids but there are pitfalls, I know from direct experience.

What part of Austin? If you are central, south or west, Lakeway is an excellent choice with a family oriented community, good schools and beautiful views of the hill country. We moved here two years ago from MA and love it.

River Place is a nice community in your price range. Westlake etc is the high rent district but you could still get in for $600k (and thats where Eanes school district is). Round Rock (where I live) is your basic middle class suburb. Same for Cedar Park (which is growing like crazy). $150-$200k or so is the average price around here.
