Auto Stop/Start
I have recently purchased a BMW with auto stop/start engine. Has anyone actually got one, where the engine remains stopped (at traffic lights) for more than 1 minute. Mine keeps cutting in on its own. It has been back to the garage several times though they can't find anything wrong with it, even though the service manager has experienced the problem several times in my vehicle. I am interested to know how long other vehicles are remaining 'stopped' as I have been told mine is working correctly, though I don't know of a traffic jam that lasts only 2 minutes!!!!

Hum so your engine tends to shut down on its own when your is not in motion??? Wow that's a first time for me, I have never seen such issue on this forum yet. First thing I would think is software problem.
Sorry mate, can't be much help.....

length of shutdown
The engine is supposed to shut down when stopped - that is correct. What appears to be the problem is that is re-starts after only 1 minute.

Had a Mini with stop/start for a day when my 2005 320d was in for service. It seemed to restart the engine after about a minute too.
There are conditions under which the engine is re-started - higher electrical load needing the alternator turning for example, I assumed it was something like this. |
