Rear legroom.
I’ve seen the numbers published for the amount of legroom in the back of the g30 sedans but looking for some real world opinions.
I’m 6’1, and have a 14-year-old son who is already 6’1, and probably going to grow another couple of inches. We spend a lot of time on the interstate with a couple of 7 hours trips to visit other kids in college, and I’m just wondering if anybody has similar experience hauling around other tall folks to advise whether it’s a comfortable enough experience for the rear seat passengers. Also looking at a new 750i for the legroom, but a bit reluctant to give up some of the sportiness of the m550. Thoughts and opinions welcome. Last edited by Lawguy; 06-18-2020 at 08:40 PM.. |

Dealers in my area will drop the car at your house for a test drive. I'd recommend that avenue so you can find a comfortable seating position then have your son sit in and see if he is still comfortable and how much space is left.

Also consider the 6 GT. If you can handle the external looks, it has more passenger space inside...
I sat in one of the older 3GTs a few years ago and even that appeared to have more rear seat space than the 5 series saloon! |

I'm 6'5" and I have the drivers seat as far back as it goes and there is very little room behind my seat.
However, there is ample room in the back behind the passenger seat for me with the seat forward a few notches, which still leaves ample legroom for the front passenger. No problem with headroom either! |

I just sat in the back seat of my G30 with the drivers seat adjusted for me (6') and the legroom was OK for short local trips etc. It might be a bit tight for longer road trips. When we have anyone in the back seat (which is rare) my wife and I will move our seats forward a bit as a courtesy to anyone in back.
All of this is anecdotal, each person has to check it out for themselves and their needs. |

If the tall rear passenger is going to sit behind the tall driver then it might be a bit tight for longer trips. Consider the G12 and add the autobahn package to help the car feel a little smaller and handle slightly better.

I just picked up a 2017 540i M Sport yesterday I moved from a 335i to the 5 series because my kids are getting bigger. I'm 6'4 and could sit in the seat behind me with the driver's seat in my driving position. It wasn't anything like riding in the backseat of my old S550, but for most adults, I think it's fine.

I'll take the new 7 over the M550i any day. I'm 6'4" and with my seat in position I can sit in the back seat with my legs stretched out. Very comfortable ride.
Stock 750i is 523 HP/553 TQ. It's no slouch and with a stage 1 tune, it's a monster of a car.

As mentioned above...the 6GT or 7 series will give you the rear seat leg room for families genetically inclined with long limbs.
For me...either model would be a “close your eyes until you get inside the vehicle” proposition. {6GT Rear Leg Room}

Finally answered the question by taking the boy with me to the dealer. (Probably would have been a better idea to have taken him the first time - haha).
First we sat in an M5. He loved the roar when it started - he's definitely my kid. But, when I got my seat where I liked it, his knees were very tight against the back of my driver’s seat. So, we adjusted the passenger seat where my wife likes it, and he had a couple inches, but it wasn’t ideal and he’s still growing. Looks like a 7-series is the way I’ll go (not a bad thing). Thanks for all the thoughts. |

It's a custom tune that's directly loaded to the ECU over OBD. The tuner changes the parameters in the ECU directly vs Dinan that's tricking the car into more boost.

its the feet that are the problem
I'm 6'1'' and I can sit in the rear seat with ample leg room. What I find a problem is getting my feet under the driver's seat as I'm getting in.

I just bought the stage 1 Dinan tune but haven't had it installed yet. The figures are impressive so can't wait to see the real life HP/Torque gains in the B58. What are the performance figures for the ECU tune vs. the Dinan bolt on?

I think the X7 SAV may be a good fit for the OP. Plenty of room (122.2' wheelbase) for his growing son and wife and more practical than the 7er (126.4' wheelbase).
