Front Collision Warning

When a car changed lanes in front of me today, I got a big red car symbol warning in the head-up display and the instrument cluster (presumably to warn me of a possible collision). There was no 'beep' with this warning display. Is there a way to turn something on (or code) so I get a beep in this instance too?

following
I have definitely received visual AND audible warnings with the cross traffic alert. with regards to the frontal collision warning I honestly do not remember if it has ever given me an audible warning (maybe it depends on the likelihood of the impending collision?), and for obvious reasons have not dared to test it out...

Yes...the collision warning has two stages...you get a visual warning first...then a visual and audible warning when there’s an “acute” possibility of a collision. The distance for the acute warning can be selected in iDrive in the early systems. In later iDrive versions...I think you can make the changes when you press the “Intelligent Safety” button on the dash...it will pull up the info on the iDrive screen...and you will probably see a selection for early, medium, or late warning.

If you haven’t gotten an acute warning yet...you either have the distance selected for “late”...or you haven’t been traveling at a speed fast enough for traffic in front of you to fall within the parameters for the acute warning you have selected when you’ve come upon slow or stopped traffic...and/or no one has abruptly cut in front of you yet at a distance close enough to to set off the acute warning. (lucky you).

If you check your setting and it’s on LATE...you may want to try “early” or “medium” to see if that is more in line with your driving style and situations.

EDIT: below is a video that discusses how the collision warning works and how to select the audible alert for acute warnings. Even if your G30 is set up slightly different than the BMW in the video...the basic concept is the same:

This was very helpful in understanding the system--thank you for sharing

Agree with this , I have had both visual and visual+audio alerts previously depending upon the situation.(and one emergency stop triggered by the car on 1 occasion)

I've experienced it all in Mexico with my mom heard the audible tone then whiplash protection started upon both the driver (pushed back) and passenger/me (forward, raised and upright position. here's a lil vid of the M550i

I had a strange occurrence of this last winter. Another car was "sort of" crossing into my lane but he was pretty far ahead and all of a sudden without warning my car slams on the brakes. It happened only once and there was not really any danger. I attribute that to dirty sensors/cameras (as usual there was plenty of salt on the roads at the time). Kind of scary though. My kids were not impressed

Yeh , the big worry with this is that the car behind was following too closely and bumps into the back of you.
Can imagine filling out the insurance form on that....

My favorite front collision visual warning was while following the professional driver around Circuit of the Americas in an M5 last July at M Track Days. Very proud of that one!
